≫ Coronavirus (CoVs) are large enveloped positive-sense RNA viruses. SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome Coronavirus 2) is an important member of the Coronavirus family that has been identified as the cause
of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
≫ The new virus, SARS-CoV-2, shares 79% sequence identity to the previously isolated human SARS-CoV and it is >
96% identical to a SARS-related bat coronavirus. The disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 is associated with lower
respiratory tract infections. Symptoms reported for patients with COVID -19 (disease caused by SARS-CoV-2)
include, mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and breathing difficulty.
≫ This assay target two SARS-CoV-2 specific genomic regions (within the RdRp and N genes), and a third Beta
Coronavirus universal sequence located within the E gene.
≫ The test analytical sensitivity is 10 copies/test.
