- Personal Protective Equipment or PPE are equipment, parts or devices that prevent a
person from having direct contact with the hazards of hazardous environments, which
can cause injuries and illnesses
- Using, storing and conserving an epp The correct use, storage and conservation of
personal protective equipment (epp) is a very important part to ensure its efficiency.
PPEs must be kept in adequate safety and hygiene conditions for the entire time they
must be in use. If any suffers any type of deterioration, it will be necessary to replace it.
Cleaning, disinfection, maintenance and replacement are necessary. These products
must be provided by the manufacturer of the equipment, who must include them in the
information brochure delivered to the buyer along with the epp. The brochure must be
available to the employees who are going to use these epp. For correct use and
maintenance, the following points of the information leaflet must be taken into account:

3. When is it necesary?
Respiratory Protection Equipment (EPR) has the function of protecting the user and their
respiratory system against the inhalation of substances that are found in the environment
and that are dangerous to health, such as, for example; particles, gases, vapors, biological
agents, etc. Respiratory Protection is also used in environments where there is oxygen
deficiency, which prevents the user from being able to access safely.
1. HEAD SAFETY
Wearing a helmet offers protection and can prevent head injuries. Choose a resistant
helmet, adapted to the working conditions. Today, you can find many stylish designs and
you can choose additional options such as an adjustable inner harness and chamois.
2. PROTECT YOUR EYES
The eyes are the most complex and fragile part of our body. Every day, more than 600
people in the world suffer eye injuries on the job. Thanks to a good pair of protective
glasses, these injuries can be prevented. Are you in contact with bright light or infrared
radiation? Then goggles or a welding shield offer the ideal protection.
3. HEARING PROTECTION
Do you work in an environment with high sound levels? If this is the case, it is very
important to consider hearing protection. Earplugs are very comfortable, but earmuffs are
practical on the job because they are easy on and off.
4. KEEP A GOOD BREATH
Wearing a mask to work is not a luxury, definitely not when you come in contact with
hazardous materials. 15% of EU employees inhale vapors, smoke or dust when doing their
job. Dust masks offer protection against dust and other dangerous particles. If the

materials are really toxic, use a full face mask. It sticks firmly to the face, to protect the
nose and mouth from harmful contamination.
5. PROTECT YOUR HANDS WITH THE PROPER GLOVES
Hands and fingers are often injured, therefore it is vital to protect them properly.
Depending on the sector in which you work, you can choose gloves with different
applications:
• vibration protection
• protection against cuts with sharp materials
• protection against cold or heat
• protection against bacteriological risks
• splash protection with diluted chemicals
6. FOOT PROTECTION
Even your feet need solid protection. Safety footwear (type Sb, S1, S2 or S3) and boots
(type S4 or S5) are the ideal solution to protect the feet against heavy weights. A non-slip
sole is useful when working in a wet environment, since 16.2% of all industrial accidents
are caused by tripping or slipping. On slippery surfaces, such as snow or ice, shoes with
crampons are recommended. Special socks can offer extra comfort.
7. WEAR THE CORRECT WORK ATTIRE
Preventing accidents is essential in a busy workshop. That is why good visibility at work is
a must: high visibility jackets and pants made of strong fabric can help prevent accidents.
As in the case of hand protection, there are versions for different applications.
5. What is OSHA? What are the benefits? What industries implement OSHAS?
OSHA and its state partners have approximately 2,400 inspectors and roughly 550 state
assessors, in addition to discrimination complaint investigators, engineers, physicians,
teachers, regulatory writers, and other technical and support personnel spanning more
than 130 offices around the world. country.
- Since the creation of OSHA in 1970, the country has made real progress in the field of
occupational safety and health. OSHA and its many partners in the public and private
sectors have succeeded in reducing the workplace fatality rate from 2002 to 2008 to
historically low levels.
The correct use, storage and conservation of personal protective equipment is a very
important point to ensure its effectiveness.
