Dear Future Self...
I’m 18 years old and am writing this letter to you in May 2021 as a requirement for my English
class this semester at Independence High School in Brambleton, VA. I am a senior and am busy with
track, Not Dying and finding the motivation for graduating. My favorite classes are math and also
math. My extracurricular activities include skiing and running. Next year I hope to ski and run.

The thing I will remember most about my first semester at Independence is thinking that I
wasn’t going to burn out during first quarter. The person I will not forget from my first few months
at Independence is Al because he asked to be here. I also will never forget about the gas shortage and
Trump holding a book in front of a church for some reason.

The thing I will remember most about my last semester at Independence is condescending comments
from dr kagan about not being in school <3. The person I will not forget from my last few months at
Independence is Jacob because just a rat. I also will never forget about sisyphus and the agony of
choice and that weird period of time when everyone thought we were gonna get murdered by bees.

The thing I was happiest about was getting into college because my parents started to look
me in the eye again.

In 2021 the cost of gas was $3.00/gallon. The cost of my favorite meal at
Moe’s was $10. My favorite album that came out in 2020 – 2021 was Delta Kream by
the Black Keys. My favorite actor/actress is myself because I do a great job of hiding
my pain. My favorite movie that came out in 2020 – 2021 is Tenet. Other popular
movies that came out around this time were: Mortal Kombat, Nobody, and Cherry.
The term or “it” phrase that my friends and I used the most was Pog. Among my
friends, I’m known as the resident audiophile because yknow the stereo.

In 2021, the style for teenagers could be said to have been amorphous solids. It
was common to see people wearing shorts, jorts, and squirts when walking down the
halls at school. I usually get to school by RiCARdo. After school, I game. For fun, I
like to game. My hobbies are skiing, running, and pondering. My favorite sport
and/or sports teams are the Independence esports teams.

rift My favorite vacation was to snowshoe with carter aidan and nate when I was skiin’.

A few major events that happened this year include: oh boy, just read a history book

My goal for the future is to my plastic that’s not going to murderer everyone. My hope
for the future that I succeed. I always want to remember.

My advice for my future self is to send it dawg and never forget to remember the alamo. These

Hi Mr. Palmer! I pulled out my scrapbook from your class to find my
personal statement for a nursing school application, and as I was looking
through it I read the letter to myself. I guess 18 year old me was psychic
or something because it was spot on and exactly what I needed to hear
at this point in my life. So I just wanted to take a second and say thank
you for assigning that because it ended up being incredibly helpful.
-Christie

Palmer’s Response: That is fantastic! That makes me so happy!

I’m glad it was helpful and something you can cherish.

Christie: It really is!! So whenever someone complains, they’ll thank you

later!
