PFT-306: Advanced Exercise Prescription for Flexibility

Week 4

Flexibility Assessment: Lower Body

For this assignment, you will complete a flexibility assessment and create a stretching routine for a client.
If possible, use the same client you used for the Week 3 Flexibility Assessment.

This assignment consists of three parts:

1. Assess the range of motion for each lower body joint action listed in the table below.
2. Create a priority list of specific areas of the body/joint actions that need greater mobility.
3. Create a stretching routine to meet the needs identified during the assessment.

Part I: Assess and Score

Complete the assessment below with your client. Assess and score, from 0-3, each area of his or her
body/joint action identified in the assessment table below. For each joint action, note the score and the
differences and/or similarities in ROM or relevant ease of motion or lack thereof in the Notes section. See
the Assess and Score Table Definitions and Instructions document for additional information on how to fill
out the table.

Scoring Criterion

The scoring process is simple and is important for the process of prioritizing which flexibility exercises
need to be introduced into the training regime. The Scoring is from 0 to 3.

0 – is used if during active articulation there is PAIN.

1 – is used if the client experiences tightness at the onset of active articulation.
2 – is used if the ROM meets with the range of motion listed as “ideal” in your text
3 – is used if the ROM exceeds the normative ROM established by the text.

Part II: Priority List

Use both your scoring and observations in order to prioritize the need for greater mobility and flexibility in
the lower body.  In this section, list the order of priority for creating mobility and flexibility in the lower
body. For each area, explain why you placed it in that order.

Part III: Stretching Routine

With the priority list established, create a stretching routine below to meet the needs identified during the
assessment. Include the following in your stretching routine:

 At least 6 stretches designed to meet the needs of the client

 A description of how each stretch will benefit the client
