HIGHLIGHTS: FIRST QUARTER

I. 1st Official Meeting

Starting the year with group works was the tactic of Ma'am Arlene in the first
meeting of Oral Communication. We were assigned to present different topics from the
quarter one module. It was fun for it was also a key to get to know the transferees and
be able to introduce how AlSci works to them.

During the first meeting, the whole concept of Oral Communication was
introduced to us and what to expect on this subject was also explained by Ma'am
Arlene. The first module was composed of different topics about the concept of
communication such as its nature, its process, and its different functions. We were
reminded of the style of teaching of Ma'am Arlene in the first meeting which we
definitely enjoyed and most importantly we have learned a lot during her lectures.

II. Creating of Slogan

One of the highlights of the whole 1st quarter of Oral Communication was the
making of our own slogans. Due to the pandemic, we were forced to continue learning
online, and because of this performance tasks have also been upgraded in order for
learners to easily pass the said tasks. Ma'am Arlene's way of doing this was by letting
us edit and create a slogan about the different communication barriers. Every student
had their own ideas to show the message of how we should avoid the different
communication barriers with the use of different coping strategies that were also taught
by Ma'am Arlene. Some had difficulty because they were not that familiar with editing
while some had it easy. However, it was a key for us, learners, to develop new skills
that we can use for the future.

III. Lucila Takjerad Speech

Module 4 was all about the different purposes of speech and the topic was
introduced to us by letting us watch a video of a speech by Lucila Takjerad. It was a
very inspiring speech that highlighted the whole module and meeting. Many felt inspired
by the two clips shown by Ma'am Arlene. Aside from the Lucila Takjerad speech, Ma'am
Arlene also showed us different clips and videos to let us fully understand the topic
which was speech according to purpose. However, the speech of Lucila Takjerad
remained in our hearts for it did not just help us to better understand the topic but also
inspired us to do better in life. Ma'am Arlene then revealed at the last part that we also
would be doing speeches for our performance task.

IV. Infographics Task

To end Quarter 1 with ensured learning, Ma'am Arlene gave us a performance

task by a group. The task was to create an infographic of the whole Quarter 1. It was a
bit tricky for there were a lot of topics and our group had difficulty in fitting them all in
one infographic. We all went back from the start of the quarter and up until the last to
ensure that we all had understood the learnings so that we can put accurate information
in our infographic. Editing was fun and our group was definitely satisfied with the final
output that we have created. It was a good way to end the quarter and it had let us
prepare for the next battle and next adventure that we are about to explore which is the
second quarter.
