THE TERMINAL
PLOT
 Introductions
Victor Navorski is a passenger who come to USA from Krokhazia. He
want to go to New York to fulfil his father’s dream, his father’s dream is to
complete his idols jazz signature on peanuts cans, and the last idol is in New
York, his name is Benny Golson, but he passed away before he can
complete the signatures, that’s why Victor promised to himself to continue
his father’s dream. But his passport is invalidated in USA, so he was stuck at
John F. Kennedy airport. Victor’s visa and passport failed because his
country is in a war, but he doesn’t know about it. So Krokhazia has not been
recognized by USA as a country, it means that Victor has no country. Victor
doesn’t speak English so when the imigration officer explained he doesn’t
understand about it.
Victor can’t go anywhere because all of the exit door is guarded, so
he stucks in the airport while waiting his status can be fixed. No one could
communicate with him efficiently which caused social isolation for him. But
however, he can manage to control and adapt to his unique environment.
He go to the arrival gate 67, the gate is unused. He went there to live there.
He made the airport like his own house.
He met a woman who was broken heart because of her boyfriend,
her name is Amelia. Then he accompany her while she was crying. He felt in
love in the first sight. Voctor made some friends at the airport, his friends
are Gupta as cleaning service, a food deliver Enrique Cruz, and Joe Mulroy
as a merchant. To survive at the airport, he earned money from collecting
trolleys and return them on their original place so he earned 25 cents per
trolley, he was also given a job by the contractor for his work skills.
But when he get something good for him, there is someone who
always monitoring what Victor was doing during the airport because he
suspected Victor was a spy, his name is Frank Dixon. He wanted to trap
Voctor to break the boundary of the airport which resulted in Victor being
arrested by police for the ansence of his visa and passport, but he always
failed to trap Victor.

 Climax
When the war at Krokhazia over, Victor’s friends wake him and tell him
about it. He need to decided his choice, to fulfil his father’s dream or back
to his country at that time.

 Conflict
When Victor undecided his choice about what he want to do the next, Mr.
Dixon wanted Victor to back to his country. Because of Mr. Dixon, Victor
made a decision to back to his country, it made his friends feel dissapointed
about it. When Victor is in the plane, his friends try to stop the plane and
aksed Victor to reach his father’s dream and his own promise.

 Falling Action
Victor finally made a decision to reach his father’s dream and go to New
York. When he reach the airport entrance, he saw Amelia. But they just
smiled each other and get in to the taxi.

 Resolution
In the end, finally Victor go to New York to meet his father’s idol, Benny
Golson. He also got his signature, he smile proudly and happily because his
father’s dream and his promise were completed, and he can go back to his
country.
ARCHETYPAL ELEMENTS
SETTING
1. John F. Kennedy International Airport
Is a place for him (Victor) to survive and to live for the whole time,
especially at gate 67 it is place for him to sleep with old chairs as bed, he lve
there when his passport and visa are not valid and can’t get out from the
airport.
2. Lexington 161
This is the place where Benny Golson performed.
SYMBOLS
The symbol of “The Terminal” is peanuts cans containing a Hungarian
newspaper in 1958 and 57 of signatures from his father’s idol jazz player. Unless
there is an idol who has not signed his signature, his name is Benny Golson who
lives in New York.
The peanuts cans represent about his promised to himself to complete his
father’s idol’s signature (Benny Golson) in New York.
CHARACTER
HERO
1. The Everyman
The everyman is Victor Navorski, the reasons are :
a. He promised himself to complete his father’s idol’s signature in New
York.
b. He worked hard to survive at the airport.
c. He also helped others from Russia to heep her medication from being
held by airport security officers.
d. He helped his friends not to go to jail.
2. The Bestfriends are Gupta as cleaning service, a food deliver “Enrique
Cruz”, and “Joe Mulroy” as a merchant. The reasons are :
a. They helped Victor to have a dinner with amelia.
b. Always support Victor’s goal to New York.
c. Dismissed the plane so that Victor would not return to Krokhazia first
and get his main purpose when he came to New York.
VILLAIN
The Tyrant is Frank Dixon as the chief of service director and airport security
limits. The reasons are :
a. He always monitoring what Victor was doing during the airport because
he suspected Victor was a spy.
b. He wanted to trap Voctor to break the boundary of the airport which
resulted in Victor being arrested by police for the ansence of his visa and
passport.
WOMAN
1. The Temptress is Amelia Warren as stewardess. The reason is, she ventured
his loneliness to Victor when she was left by her boyfriend.
2. The tomboy is Doloress as costums officer. The reason is, she has behaviors
like a guy so she’s nicknamed “wild horses” firm, obedient to the rules, and
not easily seduced by anyone.

CONFLICT
1. Man against himself
One day when he had a chance to get out from the airport just for
several minutes, he was heistant about he should go or no from the airport.
But he decided to stay in the airport and didn’t go out from the airport.

2. Man against society


Victor being complicated by Frank Dixon due to his unemployment
visa and passport, so he was detained at the airport. He never complained
and he sirvived with various ways, such as collecting trolleys and return
them on their original place so he earned 25 cents per trolley, he was also
given a job by the contractor for his work skills.
Dixon is unconcerned and selfish about Victor and he threatens
Victor to go home, if not, then his three friends will be deported for his
mistakes.
