LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY
Date : August 20 , 2019
Teacher/Facilitator: MICHAEL P. JAMIS
Section/ Time: 11-COOKEERY 7:30-8:30/11-CSS1-10:50-11:50

Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of

Correlation and Regression Analysis.
Performance Standard: The .learners are able to perform Correlation and Regression Analyses
on real-life problems in different disciplines.
Learning Competencies:
Constructs a scatter plot... ( M11/12SP-IVg-3)

I. Objective/s: At the end of the period, the students will be able to

• construct a scatter plot
• describe a scatter plot
II. Topic: Correlation and Regression Analysis
A. Instructional Materials : Power point presentation/ TV/Graphing Paper
B. Strategies/Approaches: 4A’s /Discovery
C. Reference: Statistics and Probability pp. 285-287
III. Procedures:
A. Preliminary Activities:
• Prayer
• Checking of Attendance
• Review: What is a bivariate data?
• Motivation: Think of someone that you can relate to the following colors.

B. Lesson Proper:
Activity:(Group Activity)
Plot the following Bivariate Data on a rectangular coordinate system.

GROUP 1 – Arm Span and Height of a person

GROUP 2 – Daily Allowance and Weight of a person
GROUP 3 – Shoe size and Height of a person
GROUP 4 – Age and Weight of a person
GROUP 5 – Daily Allowance and Number of hours spent in playing ML.

Analysis: (Reporting by Group)

Show, describe and explain your output to your classmates.

Abstraction: What do you think is the purpose of plotting the data on the Cartesian
Coordinate Plane? What is the purpose of a scatter plot?
(Scatter Diagram: A plot of all the ordered pairs of bivariate data on a
coordinate axis system.)
(The input variable x is plotted on the horizontal axis, and the output
variable y is plotted on the vertical axis.)
Note: Use scales so that the range of the y-values is equal to or slightly less
than the range of the x-values. This creates a window that is
approximately square.
• A scatter plot (or scatter diagram) is used to show the relationship
Application:
1. In Group of 7’s,
2. In a study involving children’s fear related to being punished, the age and the
score each child made on the Child Most Feared Scale (CMFS) are given in
the table below. Construct a scatter diagram for this data.

Age (x ) 8 9 9 10 11 9 8 9 8 11
CMFS (y ) 31 25 40 27 35 29 25 34 44 19

Age (x ) 7 6 6 8 9 12 15 13 10 10
CMFS (y ) 28 47 42 37 35 16 12 23 26 36

IV. Evaluation : ( Individual Activity)

A company with six branches provides coffee to its employees. A manager is interested to find out if
there is a relationship between the number of cups of coffee provided and the number of employees
in the offices. The table below shows the data needed. Determine if there is a relationship between
the number of employees and the number of cups of coffee.
Number of Employees(x) Number of cups of coffee (y)
11 18
13 36
15 40
18 50
21 58
24 74

What can you infer about the data given? Can you think of an idea that can be related
to these numbers? Can you think of a situation that might be represented by those numbers you
have plotted? Can you describe the points on the graph? What is the relationship between the
number of employees and the number of cups of coffee?

Bivariate Data: Consists of the values of two different response variables that are obtained from
the same population of interest.

Three combinations of variable types:

1. Both variables are qualitative (attribute).
2. One variable is qualitative (attribute) and the other is
quantitative (numerical).
3. Both variables are quantitative (both numerical).

Two Quantitative Variables:

1. Expressed as ordered pairs: (x, y)
2. x: input variable, independent variable.
y: output variable, dependent variable.

Correlation analysis is used to measure strength of the association (linear relationship) between two
variables
 Only concerned with strength of the relationship
 No causal effect is implied
Scatter Diagram: A plot of all the ordered pairs of bivariate data on a coordinate axis system.
The input variable x is plotted on the horizontal axis, and the output variable y is
plotted on the vertical axis.

What ? How do you illustrate a bivariate data? What do use to illustrate it?
What is the purpose of a scatter plot? Can you list down 2 pairs of variables which can
be used to illustrate bivariate Data? ( Integration to Science)

STEPS IN TESTING HYPOTHESIS

1. Identify the claim and formulate the null and alternative hypothesis

2. Set the level of significance and determine whether the test is one tailed or two tailed by looking at
how the alternative hypothesis is expressed. Decide on the test staitistic to be used and find the critical value
for the test. Draw the rejection region.

3. Compute the test value, using the test statistic or formula for the test.

4. Make a decision whether to accept or reject the null hypothesis.

5. Formulate a conclusion by answering the research question..
