insights.

FATHER DELA COSTA

Father Dela Costa is a writer, a scholar and a historian. Because of this, he understand clearly the
two novels of Jose Rizal which is the El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere. When the Catholic Church
heard about the provision of Rizal Bill, the bishops wants to oppose the bill. They mandated Father
Horacio Dela Costa to write a pastoral letter that will encourage the people to go against it. However, Fr.
Dela Costa write statement with no bitter expression against Rizal because he understands well the
novel.

our history. During our high school days, we tackled these 2 novels. Because of this, we the generation of

today is being educated on what happen during that time that’s why I was very happy that former
Senator Claro M. Recto proposed this Rizal Bill because we are not only educated, we also maintained
the morale we inherited from our ancestors.

Before ending this module, let us now relate the movie “Braveheart” depicting the manner how they
sought freedom with the experience of the Filipinos under the Spanish colonizers
sh

The movie “Braveheart” is likely to be the same to the early Filipinos (our ancestors). They had
the same thought which is to be freed from the colonizers. The native elite and the mestizos joined
forces together with the lower class (laborers and workers) to fight for their freedom. Just like William
Wallace who sacrificed his life, our Jose Rizal also did that. Rizal gathers information that will ruin the
Spaniards.

Share your thoughts about this module. What three important things have you learned from the
lessons? Why?

Social Condition- the social status was predominant years ago, but the social differences of Filipinos is
not a hindrance because they joined forces just to win their independence against the Spaniards who
colonized them.

Economic Condition- when the Chinese who was been baptized in Catholicism and married a Filipino
woman, they started to help us improve our economy. Also, they dominate our race and call it mestizos.

Political Condition- the creation of Cadiz Constitution of 1812 brought independence and equal rights to
the Filipinos and Spaniards. But on the declaration of Suez Canal, the Spaniards use their power to
maltreat the indios and uplift the corruption in our country.
