The Scientific Method

Scientific method refers to a set of steps for verifying and building scientific knowledge. Steps include making valid observations,
interpreting results, and generalizing results. The scientific method allows researchers to independently and impartially test pre-
existing knowledge and prior findings and subject them to scrutiny and enhancements.

Recall a problem or challenge that you were able to solve recently. Identify the steps you did or went through.
Write the steps on the corresponding box in the worksheet.

Ask a Question: Make a Hypothesis:

Why does my watch doesn't work? Maybe the battery of my watch is old.

Test the Hypothesis: If I will change my watch's battery it will work and it will function again.

Materials: New watch's battery.

Procedures: First, open the back of the watch, second is replace the old battery to new one. And
lastly close the back of the watch after replacing the battery.

Record the Results:

Draw a Conclusion:
The tested hypothesis works.
The following procedure was all correct
that hypothesis supported.

Ask a Question: Make a Hypothesis:

Why does my phone won't turn on? Maybe because the battery is drained already.

Test the Hypothesis: If I will charge my phone maybe this time it works.

Materials: Charger
Procedures: Plug the charger into the outlet and plug the charging port into the phone.

Record the Results:

Draw a Conclusion:
The tested hypothesis works.
Over all it was proven and tested that the
phone works and supported by the

Ask a Question: Make a Hypothesis:

Why do Apples turn brown? I do believe that dipping Apple slices in a

liquid will slow from turning brown.

Test the Hypothesis: Maybe the effect of the Lemon juice on the wedges of apple will reduce
the time of the browning process as it is more acidic.

Materials:
• Apple
• A variety of liquids:( feel free to use whatever you have around the house)
• Diluted lemon juice
• Water
• Baking soda water
• Vinegar
• Milk
• Small containers
• Paper and pen for labeling
Procedures:
1. Cut out small pieces of paper and write the name of the liquids you are going to test.
One of them should be “air” for your control variable. Having a control variable is
necessary so that you can compare it to the other apples that have been submerged in
various liquids.
2. Pour the other liquids into separate containers.
3. Place the labels next to the corresponding containers. You don’t want to wait to do this
and forget what the liquids are later.
4. Place an apple slice in each container so that it’s submerged in the liquid.
5. Wait a few minutes and take out the apple slices.

Record the Results: Draw a Conclusion:

The tested Hypothesis works. When it comes to preventing an apple slice

from browning, the winner is salt water!
The lemon juice was a close second.
Interestingly, vinegar seemed to have
accelerated the browning process instead of
slowing it down.

Ask a Question: Make a Hypothesis:

Why does the plant looks thin? Maybe because it's lack of fertilizer.

Test the Hypothesis: If I will pour some fertilizer to it maybe it will grow and look healthy.

Materials: Fertilizer
Procedures: Pour some fertilizer to the plant.

Ask a Question: Make a Hypothesis:

How does a solar power work? Maybe because of the electricity that is
available or it is because of the heat of the
sun?

Test the Hypothesis: Maybe the solar panel will work if there is a sunlight.

Materials: Solar panel

Procedures: Put it direct to the sun light.

even low on battery? nonstop.

Test the Hypothesis: I tried pressing the power on button but it didn't work. If I will use the
command I learned from the internet long time ago maybe it will turn back on.

Materials: No materials needed

Procedures:
1. Press power on button and volume up at the same time.
2. The phone will turn on and it will show you three choices. Reboot, go to help center or
clear all data on the phone.
3. I press the go to help center button and after a few minutes, my phone started working

Test the Hypothesis: I will start an online selling.

Materials: Gadgets, and the product that I want to sell

Procedures: First, I will research and observe what is more demand today specially in this mode
of learning which is online class.
Second, I will look for a legit reseller.
And lastly, in order to sell more, I post it on my story on messenger so that it is easy to access.

think in positive way and take every
opportunity. And basically, online selling
helps a lot of people nowadays.
