Second Quarter/ Week 6/ Day 3
In this lesson, you will be able to determine certain properties of the trapezoid and
apply them in solving problems involving trapezoid.
TRY TO DISCOVER!
Recall that a trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. The
parallel sides of the trapezoid are the bases and the two nonparallel sides are the
legs. The two angles that include the base are called base angles. Every trapezoid
has two pairs of base angles. If the legs of the trapezoid are congruent, then the
trapezoid is isosceles.
The line segment that joins the midpoints of the non-parallel sides is the median of a
trapezoid.
The median of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases and its length is equal to one-half the
sum of the lengths of the bases.
𝑀𝐸 ≅ ̅̅̅̅
In trapezoid 𝑀𝐻𝑄𝐶, if ̅̅̅̅̅ 𝐻𝑅 ≅ ̅̅̅̅
𝐸𝐶 and ̅̅̅̅ 𝑅𝑄 , therefore median ̅̅̅̅
𝐸𝑅 ∥ ̅̅̅̅̅ 𝐸𝑅 ∥ ̅̅̅̅
𝑀𝐻 ; ̅̅̅̅ 𝐶𝑄.

Then, 𝐸𝑅 = (𝑀𝐻 + 𝐶𝑄 ).̅̅̅̅
