Statement of purpose (sop)

Since I was a little girl, I have thought I was destined to become a great doctor; I believed that was
what I wanted to do in my professional life. Unconsciously, in my nuclear family, ideas of being a
doctor began to emerge because my mother is an auxiliary nurse. However, in my adolescence I
realized that medicine was not my thing; Instead, I my desire to learn systems engineering began. I
am characterized by being a resourceful person and my willing to learn the new things that come
out in the world of technology every day. I have known how to use cellphones since I was five
years old in a basic way. I learned all this by myself because I liked to spend hours and hours using
all the functionalities of the cell phone and the computer that was possible at my young age. My
mother has always told me since I was a child that I am very quick to capture ideas and put them
into practice, something that I have developed throughout my student life.

At the beginning of the ninth grade of high school, there was the option of choosing a workshop
(automotive, industrial, business management, electricity, and systems) to further develop skills
that we felt stood out for that workshop more than in the others. In my case, I decided to go with
the systems workshop; it caught my attention because they offered a good curriculum of topics to
be covered up to the eleven grade, and also because I wanted to exploit more that knowledge that
I had been Increasing since my childhood. At first, I thought the systems workshop would be easy
because in my mind I did not think that the basic programming that they taught would be so
complicated to understand, the first month was not the best for me, but little by little I took the
time to study the topics and write every important thing that my teacher said in class. Step by step
I improved and thanks to that persistence to learn more, I was the only person who did not take a
final exam in my first year of systems workshop because the teacher did not see it necessary to do
it because of the good achievement that I had in the year. Every year was better for me, I was
falling in love with everything I learned about systems in school. I was recognized among my
classmates as the best student in systems because I always got good grades, did my work well, and
was very active in class. Thanks to all that process that I took over in my last three years of high
school, I graduated with honors as the best system student of my class. Despite this, I still had in
my mind to study medicine, but deep down I knew that I was not destined to do that. Ignoring my
conscience, I was so caught up in study medicine that I didn't see any other university career
opportunities other than medicine.

When the time came to choose my career that it will take me to triumph not only in the personal
but also in the professional life, I decided to study systems engineering. It has been the best
decision I could have made in my life because, thanks to Icesi university, a dream of working with
Microsoft Corporation located in The United States in Washington began to form. This aspiration
comes to my mind because the university has graduate students working for Microsoft, and many
of them describe fabulous experiences of working for them. What most caught my attention about
Microsoft is that they focus a lot on people's talent regardless of what specialty they handle, and
they focus a lot on people learning the new technologies that come out in the market. I find that
very interesting because they take into account all the specialties, that is, you don't necessarily
have to be a software or telematics engineer to work with them. They do not focus only on the
person as a machine to work with, they focus on how the person can contribute in the company
with what they know.

On the other hand, Microsoft's Corporation mission is “to empower every person and every
organization on the planet to achieve more”. It has a lot to do with the impact I want to make in
the world and that is to improve myself every day as a person and as a professional. I think that
this mission that Microsoft has is important because staying in the same comfort zone does not
achieve a greater impact than expected; however, if a company runs the risk of innovating by
making good strategies to achieve that, much will be gained. I think that the most important skill
that makes me a good worker in Microsoft is that I like to find different ways to achieve the same
result, I am also a very demanding person with what I do and I always try to do the best I can in my
jobs and projects.

Finally, once I have achieved my goal of working with you, I would like to make a highly positive
impact on the female community through my experience as a worker at Microsoft Corporation.
Throughout my university career, it is heard that a minority of people say that women are not
useful for technology, but they are wrong. We all have the ability to learn at different velocity and
it does not mean that because a woman is part of a team of software developers will be a hold up
to reach the goal. I want to be that voice for many women who may have doubts about entering
this wonderful world of software engineering. I hope to be part of your team of software
engineers. It would be an honor to work with you. I know that with you I can achieve my present
and future goals. Thank you for reading to me through this letter.
