What is Research (general)?

According to what I have understood so far, research is when you are interested in doing something that
excites you, and you tend to look into the know-hows to understand in-depth how the concept works
and see if there is any way that you can help to improve it. Research is the process of discovering
something new and testing its truth.

When you try to look at it, the answer is within the word itself re-search. Research means relentlessly
searching thru the same resources to find something new.

Moreover, research is done in all fields to find the truth to gain ‘knowledge' on how and how best to
address a problem, an issue, etc. For instance, in medical research, researchers will study, do
experiments, search for answers to certain medical problems. Diseases can be cured, prevented from
knowledge/insights gain from advances in medical research in universities and the industries. Advances
and progress in all fields are the results of research being done there. Research is indispensable.

Describe the process of research as data gathering method in journalism.

We always tend to research things to feed our budding curiosity, whether scientific or just to increase
stock knowledge. The process of research as a data-gathering method in Journalism is very
consequential and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Although Journalism and Research vary from each other, the gathering method is somewhat relevant to
both fields. Research should be valid and logical. Logical research is digging into a topic in a valid way or
a way that makes sense. Getting rid of anything that cannot be validated and continuing with the things
that can be validated. Thus, the research would end up being considered logical.

Moreover, “subjectivity should not be confused with bias” as “there is no place for bias in the research
process.” Being a subjective bias in journalism is a big no. It is based on nothing but your personal likes
or dislikes instead of objective bias based on some objective universal standard.
