SECTION 15300

FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Scope of Specification
This specification prescribes the basic minimum requirements to supplement
each Fire Protection specification section with general requirements applicable to
specification.

B. Related Specifications

1. Copies of plans shall be submitted to the


Architect/Engineer for review and approval.
No work shall proceed until approval is
received. Quantities to be submitted shall be
in conformance with Section 1.9. Of this
specification.
2. Architect/ Engineer Specifications and
Drawings:
a) Specifications and Drawing intent is to
include all items necessary for the
proper execution and completion of the
work.
b) Specification and Drawings are
complimentary and what is required by
any one document shall be binding as if
required by all.
c) Work not covered in the specifications
and drawings will not be required
unless it is consistent and reasonably
necessary to produce the intended
results.
d) Works and abbreviations which have
well-known technical or trade
specifications and drawings in
accordance with such recognized
meanings.
e) Written interpretations of specifications
and drawings are valid only when
issued by Architect/Engineer.

C. Technology

1. A/E (Architect/Enginers): Engineering and
architectural firm doing work.
2. Contractor appropriate individual, company,
or corporation as established by work
assignments set forth by Architect/Engineer
as Construction Manager.
3. Shop Drawings: Drawings, diagrams,
schedules and other data specially prepared
for the work by the Contractor.
4. Product Data: Illustrations, standards,
schedules, and other data specially prepared
for the work by the Contractor to illustrate
some portion of the work.
5. Samples: Physical examples, which illustrate
materials, equipment, or workmanship and
establish standards by which the work will be
judged.

1.2 REFERENCES

The publications listed below form part of this


specification. Each publication shall be the latest
revision and addendum in effect on the date this
specification is issued for construction unless noted
otherwise. Except as modified by the requirements
specified herein or the details of the drawings, work
included in this specification shall conform to the
applicable provisions or these publications.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Contractor shall comply with the quality assurance


requirements of the Owner. Architect/Engineer and
regulatory agencies.

B. If the Contractor performs any work knowing it to be contrary to such laws,


ordinances, rules and regulations and without notice to Architect/Engineer. The
contractor shall assume full responsibility for liability and costs associated with
the installation and any work required.

1.4 CONTRACT DOCUMENTATION

Substitution for items described in the contract documents will be as follows:

A. Where “Approval Equal” is omitted for item, product, material, system or


equipment provide exactly as specified. No. Substitution will be considered or
approved.

B. Where “Approved Equal” substitution may be submitted for approval by the


Architect/Engineer. Proposed substitutes are included for an item, product,
material system or equipment shall be as follows:

1. Certified Data where required in the contract


documents.
2. Availability in quantity sufficient to prevent delay of work.
3. Provided in the same range of colors, textures, gages, dimensions,
capacities, functions, types and finishes.
4. Equal to specified item in strength, durability, efficiency, serviceability,
ease and cost of maintenance.
5. Compatible with design without design modifications by
Architect/Engineer or additional cost.

1.5 RECORD DOCUMENTS AND SAMPLES

The contractor shall maintain at the site 1 record copy of all drawings, specifications,
addenda, change orders and other modifications, in good order and marked currently to
record all changes made during construction, and shall maintain at the site approved
shop drawings, product data and samples. These shall be available to the Architect/
Engineer and shall delivered to the A/E for the Owner upon completion of the work.

1.6 SUBMITTAL DOCUMENTS

Shop drawings, calculations product data and samples shall comply with individual
and specification section requirements and as follows:

A. Shop drawings shall be 1 reproduction sepia for return


with remark noted.

B. Product data shall be submitted in quantity of 3 copies.

C. Submit samples in quantity of 3:1 to be retained by
Architect/Engineer. 1 to be at the construction site and 1 to
be returned by Architect/Engineer to the originator with
remarks.

D. Approval indicates conformance to contract documents


(not performance, code compliance, dimensions or
quantities) and does not constitute approval to vary from
contract documents Re-submit disapproved shop drawings,
calculations, product data and samples for approval in
same manner as for first submittal.

E. No portion of fabrications or procurement work


requirement work requiring shop drawings, product data or
sample approval shall be started until Architect/Engineer
approval is obtained.

1.7 COORDINATION OF TRADES

Contractor must coordinate the fire protection work with the work of all other trades.
All interface problems must be resolved prior to installation of any of the work.

1.8 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM IMPAIRMENTS

Prior to shutting off a section of the fire service system to make any fire protection
system modifications, work carefully and assemble all materials to enable completion
in shortest possible time. Work notify appropriate plant personnel and the authority
having jurisdiction. Plan the started on connections should be used to completion
without interruption, and protection restored as promptly as possible. During the
impairment, provide emergency hose lines, additional fire pails and extinguishers, and
maintain watch service in the areas affected.

1.9 CLEANING AND FINISHING

A. After all tests have been made and the systems are ready to
be places in service, Contractor shall review the entire
installation and clean work and other equipment installed
by the Contractor, leaving the work area clean and orderly.

B. Contractor shall remove daily all debris and rubbish occasioned by the work and
when requested by the Construction Manager and upon completion of the work,
shall promptly removed all tools, equipment and unused materials from the
premises.

1.10 COMPLETION OF INDIVIDUAL SYSTEMS

Contractor shall execute the work in such a manner as to allow the Owner to use each
fire protection system when completed for building protection prior to test and final
acceptance.

1.11 RECORD DRAWINGS

Contractor shall keep an accurate field record of any fire protection work actually
installed by the Contractor. At the completion of the work, Contractor shall use all
information such as dimensions from columns and elevations for piping and equipment
installed for the preparation of “record as-build drawings”. These drawings shall be
submitted to Architect/Engineer noted as “As-Built”.

1.12 TRAINING

Contractor shall provide to the Owner as a maximum, review of the installed fire
protection systems. The reviews shall include a walkdown of the systems, training
manuals a complete set of as-build engineering drawings, calculations, and equipment
data sheet for each fire protection system.
