PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Construction Safety Program.
1. Responsibility for safety onsite rests with Design-Builder.
2. The regulations of the OSH Act 2004 (Amended 2006) apply as a minimum.
3. Employer will provide Design-Builder with any known information regarding hazards to the
health or safety of persons in the workplace.
B. Site Safety Plan.
C. Proximity to Overhead Power Lines.
D. Roof Top Access.
E. Confined Spaces.
F. Protective Clothing and Equipment.
G. Barricades and Barriers.
H. First Aid.
I. Lockout Procedures.
J. X-Rays and Other Construction Testing.
K. Fire Protection during Construction.
A. Conduct a job hazard assessment and prepare a Site Safety Plan giving the names and
emergency telephone numbers of Design-Builder, Design-Builder’s Project Manager, and Site
Safety Officer.
B. Plan shall show the details of the construction procedure relating to site access, maintenance
of any required exits, barricades, traffic control, scaffolding and swing stages, hoisting
equipment, fire protection facilities, emergency shut-off locations, material storage, waste

materials, control of dust and debris, protection of the edges of each floor and any other items
required by Employer.
C. Present the Site Safety Plan to Employer and Project Coordinator at the first Project Meeting
described in Section 01 31 00.
D. The Site Safety Plan shall be adjusted to reflect the current stage of construction activities.
E. A separate Fire Safety Plan for the construction site shall also be submitted
A. Design-Builder must conform to Project Coordinator directives with respect to entering confined
spaces such as manholes, etc. Design-Builder must perform a risk assessment and secure
necessary confined space entry permit from Project Coordinator prior to entry into respective
space.
B. Build walkways in close proximity to job sites with overhead protection where overhead work
is being performed in close proximity.
C. Provide adequate warning for visually impaired pedestrians in pedestrian areas. Chain link
fencing or hoarding is preferred as it allows blind persons to feel the base of the barricade with
their canes.
D. Before setting up barricades in pedestrian areas notify Employer at least 48 hours in advance
in order that necessary personnel can be made aware.

E. Conform to the requirements of the Ministry of Works and Transport – Highways Division for
placement of all barriers in vehicular areas.
B. Onsite fires including those for burning garbage and construction waste materials are not
permitted.
C. Provide and maintain temporary fire protection equipment during performance of Work required
by insurance companies having jurisdiction governing codes, regulations and bylaws.
D. Maintain placed or installed fire resistive construction, fireproofing, and firestopping to protect
the portions of the Work during construction
