GENERAL PHYSICS 1
ROTATIONAL KINEMATICS
INSTRUCTION: Show your solution completely by providing the given/s, the unknown/s,
the formula, and the final answers with the appropriate unit/s. Final answers should be in
up to two decimal places.
As a car starts accelerating (from rest) along a straight road at a rate of 2.4 m/s 2, each
of its tires gains an angular acceleration of 6.86 rad/s2. Calculate (a) the radius of its tires, (b)
the angular speed of every particle of the tires after 3.0s, and (c) the angular displacement
every particle of its tires travels during the 3.0-second period.
REFLECTION:
In doing the activity, I was able to use the rotational quantities. As I answer the activity, first, I plotted all the
given values and the unknows ones. Then, with the data I gathered I look for their formulas where the values
given and needed is present. In calculating the radius, I used the formula of the tangential acceleration since the
car accelerated along a straight line so it has a linear acceleration and the value needed and given are present in
the formula with no excess. On the other hand, angular acceleration was used in finding the angular speed since
angular acceleration is also the rate of angular velocity changes with respect to time and the magnitude of body’s
angular velocity is the angular speed. Lastly, since the car is moving and every particle are also constantly rotate,
when a body that rotates about a rotation axis, changing its angular position from θ1 to θ2, it undergoes angular
displacement. The formula was similar to the formula in getting the distance in uniform accelerated motion more
like its translational form. In this activity, I learned that in physics, formulas with similar principles correlates
with each other and some only differs with the variables they used due to the set-up given. And that if you know
the basics, you could able to derive formular out of it,
