ABSTRACT
The tittle of this thesis was Teaching Understanding Of
Narrative text Reading Using The Bottom-up Strategy For
Class Nine Of Smp Muhammadiyah Pagar Alam. The main
problem of this research is “There is a significant difference in
reading comprehension between learning that is taught using
free-writing methods and those that are not, therefore the
purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a
significant difference or not. on reading comprehension between
the tenth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Pagar Alam which is
taught by the free-composing method and which is not.
The method used in this research is the method of free writing.
The population in this study was the ninth grade students of
SMP MUHAMMADIYAH PAGAR ALAM, this thesis used
purposive sampling. Data was collected through a written test.
Data were analyzed by SPSS version 22. Based on the results of
data analysis, there were several findings. In the experimental
group, the main source is 89 and the lowest score is 52 and the
main score in the control group is 61.5, the highest score is wa
84 and the lowest score is 52. Furthermore, from the t-test
results obtained, the table value is 4.026.

support from good people around me. After all, I am indebted to
them for making time during my studies unforgettable
experience.
I extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to my
supervisor, Sri Wahyuni, M.pd who kindly helped and supported
me during the process of writing my thesis and has
always patient to give advice. I also want to say thank you to
the family who always give valuable advice and encourage me
when I face difficulties and obstacles during the process of
writing my thesis and also during my studies at this campus.
I am very grateful to my beloved parents, Mr. Sukirman W
and my mother Desmi Yuliana who always supported me and
