1 Introduction

1.1 Declarations
The CE and UL declaration of conformity for the product will be fulfilled if the setup and
! cabling is undertaken in accordance with the specification in the manual and the docu-
mentation listed there, such as mounting instructions, cable lists etc. Where necessary,
project-specific documentation should be taken into account.
Deviations from the specifications or independent changes during setup, such as use of
cable types with lower screening values, for example, can lead to the CE requirements
being violatad. In such cases the CE declaration of conformity is invalidated and the
responsibility passes to the person who has caused the deviations.

1.2 Purpose of the Manual

2.2 Site Requirements

Prior to the commencement of installation, the site must have been prepared as follows:
– Measures should be taken to avoid unauthorized access during installation works
– The lightning protection and grounding systems must be complete
– All installation works of 1 phase 230 V AC or 115 V AC power supply, including a
false current protection switch must be finished.
– in case of -48 V DC power feeding by external power supply equipment, the capacity
of the equipment should be able to cover the power consumption of max.1500 W
(including supply for heater equipment) per cabinet
– in case of pole mounting: the diameter must not be less than 90 mm and should
not exeed 300 mm
– in case of wall mounting: the load-carrying capacity must be not less than
1.50 kN/m2

2.3 Environmental Conditions

The location of a site may directly affect the correct operation of the base station.
In terms of excessive salt contamination situations it is recommended not to place the
BS82 close to coastal areas in order to avoid shorter maintenance intervals.
It is recommended to keep a distance of about > 500 m from the coast.
Enclosures on coastal sites should not be installed with neither the air outlets nor
the air inlets facing directly into prevailing sea winds or spray.

For sites in very windy areas, e.g. hilly terrain, an optional baffle plate, located at the air
outlet of the fan, is available on request in order to prevent unintentional impact on the
thermal sensors of the BS82 due to strong reverse air blow.
Sites located close to excessive airborne dust clouds i.e. cement, coal deposits etc.
should also be minimised in order to avoid contamination of the cooling system and
increased maintenance.
The ambient temperature range is - 45˚C...+55˚C / -49˚F...131˚F.

The 4 carrier master cabinet, which also contains the Core module (COBA) can be
further interconnected with an extension cabinet by a CCLink- connection and the CAN-
bus.
If no more than one DCU is needed in a cabinet, the second slot must be filled by a
i DCU-dummy without function, to guarantee the original airflow for sufficient convection
cooling of the modules ! This applies also to the BATTERY, TIF, OVPTM and COBA.

The base configuration of the BS82 contains further the power supply for 115 V AC
(ACPSC/U), 230 V AC (ACPSC) or -48 V DC (DCPSC), a backup battery in case of
AC power supply (backup time minimum 5 min), an optional antenna (INTENNA), the
fan and the heater unit.
The integrated climate control system of the BS82 guarantees proper outdoor operation
(temp. range: -45˚ C ... +55˚ C as per ETSI 4.1E).
The product has been evaluated for protection against water splashing the enclosure
from any direction and for ingress protection according to IP 54 (EN60529).

combinig on air option.
Each module is separately equipped with cooling/heating means if necessary.

2.7 Equipment Delivery

The BS82 cabinet is shipped horizontally in a wooden crate. Depending on the pre-
installed modules inside the cabinet, the crate can weigh up to approx. 90 kg.
Add-on modules, which should be installed on site, will be shipped in their own cartons.
An imprint gives information for identification on delivery. Handle each crate with
extreme caution to avoid tipping.

2.7.1 Preliminary Checks

Check that the crates are not damaged. Check the “Shockwatch-Label” if it is available.
In case of evident damage due to transport, unpack the equipment in presence of an
insurance company representative and promptly claim any damage and inform the
shipper for specifying the damage.
Check whether the package is actually adressed to the site and complete. Open it and
take the contents out carefully.
After having removed all contents from the packing material, check for deformation to
the devices, of torn or unwelded wiring, of oxidized connectors, as well as deformed
front panels of the units, loose screws, damage to paint work etc.

2.7.2 Transportation, Loading and Unloading of the BS82

For movement of the cabinet to the final installation site, the BS82 has to be transported
inside the original crate, to avoid damages of the housing and paint coat.
If the cabinet should be transported by crane or other lifting aids, it must be fixed at crane
hooks using both holes of the frame (2).See Fig. 2.5.

Make sure, that the mounting frame for the cabinet is fixed correctly at pole or wall
! before lift up.
Note the accident prevention regulations, when working with crane or other lifting aids !

If using of lifting aids generally is not possible, pay attention to the weight of the fully
equipped cabinet of approx. 70 kg (without ADD-ON modules).
In this case it is recommended to remove the Dual Carrier Units in steps as described
in section 2.11 of this document.
Weight exceeding 25 kg must be handled by two people!

2.8 Mounting of the BS82

The BS82 can be mounted at pole- or wall sites. There are two different modules used
for wall and pole assembly, one for a rigid assembly, the other with a swiveling option
for maintenance purpose. The swiveling mounting kit, MK:WPSWIVM, is intended to be
used, for example, if the eMicro has to be mounted close to a wall at its left hand side in
order to give access to the left door and the backplane module behind.

MK:WPMV1 rigid assembly (standard mounting kit)

MK:WPSWIVMV1 swiveling assembly (optional, enables proper maintenance
access at otherwise inaccessible locations)

Tab. 2.1 Modules for wall and pole assembly

. The following sections are intended to give information about the mounting variants.

Fig. 2.6 Mounting variants of the BS82

The cabinets have to be mounted in an upright position. It has to be ensured that no hot
air (max. temperature 55˚C) can be sucked into the cabinet by the fan module and that
the airflow outlet is not blocked.
As a consequence, there have to be 20 cm space above and 50 cm below the cabinets.
Add-On-modules requires additional 10 cm per add-on on top of the BS82.
i Max. 5 Add-On-modules could be equipped.

In addition, there has to be 50 cm space to the right side of the cabinet to allow proper
access for service and maintenance activities as well as for sufficient air flow.
On the left side there has to be 5 cm space (compare with Fig. 2.7 ).

2.8.3 Mounting Procedure

Proceed in steps as follows:
– Wrap the rubber pad around the pole and fix the pad by adhesive tape.
– Position the bracket on the pole. A second person is needed for help.
– Fit the Bandimex bands through the passage holes of the mounting frame.
Use the correct passage hole in accordance with the table and the sketch above.
– Slide buckle on band and bringing end of band around object to be clamped and
again through buckle.
– Continue band around object once more and again through buckle. Double banding
develops a great deal more radial compression than single banding. Bend end of
band under buckle.
– Place band in open slot of tool nose and in slide. With thumb on band gripper lever,
apply tension by turning handle of tool. After tension is created, it is no longer
necessary to hold band gripper lever as it locks itself under tension.
– Place finger on Bandimex band at buckle bridge while tensioning with tool handle,
maximum pressure is being exerted by the Bandimex band around object being
clamped. Stop turning handle.

– Roll tool over buckle, backing off with tension handle throughout entire rolling oper-
ation. Failure to back off with tension handle throughout entire course of roll may
result in breaking of band. There is no loss of tension as band released is used up
in the bend.
– Pull cutting handle to cut the band and remove the extra length.
– Remove tool, holding stub of band down with thumb.
Hang up carefully the cabinet and secure it by the top screw of the mounting kit.

2.9.2 Ground and Power Supply Connections BS82

2.9.2.1 Ground Supply

The BS82 has to be connected to the site specific ground system before starting any
work at the cabinet. The ground system on site must comply with the standards IEC
1024-1 and VDE 0185.
A ground wire (16 mm2, copper conductor) must be connected with screw M5,
at the lower side of the bracket of the cabinet ( see Fig. 2.15.).The cabinet is grounded
by the screw connections between bracket and the rear side of
the BS82.

M5

Fig. 2.15 Location of M5 ground screw

Connect the BS82 to the ground system on site as follows:
– Use the nearest connection point of the ground system.
– Ascertain the distances between the connection points of the ground system
and the ground stud of the shelter.
– Cut the wire to the required length.
– Remove the wire insulation at the end to connect to the ground bolt
(length 7 mm) and fix a double crimped cable lug M5.
– Connect the prepared cable end to the ground screw.
– Tighten the nut firmly.
The (optional) extension cabinet requires a ground connection in the same manner.
If lightning protection level 3 is required and an extension cabinet is used, ensure a fully
i symmetrical ground supply for master and extension cabinet.

2.9.3 Abis-Interface - PCM Link Terminal

The Abis interfaces Abis A and Abis B provide the communication links to the
neighbouring Base Stations or to the controlling BSC. The Abis interfaces are
terminated with Overvoltage Protections (OVPT) which protects the boards inside the
BS82 against overvoltage (residual voltage < 1 kV).
Two types of OVPT exist: OVPTCOAXM for 75 Ohm and OVPTM for 100/120 Ohm
cables).
Depending on the different cable impedances it is recommended to:
– Use screened cable containing 8/10 shielded twisted pairs for 100 /120 Ohm PCM
lines, e.g. S-09YS(ST)CY 8x2x0.6/1.2.
– Use coaxial cables for 75 Ohm wiring, e.g. 2YCCY 0.4/2.6.
The maximum cable length depends on the attenuation of the cable, in order to fulfill
the requirements of minimum voltage levels to be provided at Abis interface according
to PCM standards.
The cable shielding must be connected to the relevant ground pins and cable runs as
close as possible (in order to avoid EMC/RF interfering effects).

2.9.3.1 Abis-Interface for 100 / 120 Ohm Cable Impedance

The Abis interface to the peripherial is done by the use of two 9 pin and one 11 pin
WAGO terminal block connectors.
On the Abis interface four different connection options are possible. The options are
shown in the tables below.
Connect the Abis-interface with twisted pair cable to the PCM link terminal as follows:
– Cut the cable to the required length and cut back the outer insulation
(approx. 20 cm). Remove the wire insulation (8 mm).
– Wrap the exposed cable screen.
– Insert the wires into the terminals of the OVPTM.
– Insert the additional wire (shielding potential) into one of the ground terminals
(e.g. terminal block 1, terminal 5).
– Lead the additional wire and the uplink and downlink wires on the shortest route
(that means without sleeves) between the stress relieving and the terminals.
– All unconnected PCM lines (4 wires per line) must be connected to one of the
ground terminals.

2.9.6 Abis Interface Microwave

The SRA-L Fully Outdoor Unit (Siemens Radio Access Link, low capacity) can be used
in order to provide a wireless Abis link (microwave) to a BSC or other BTSE.
In order to operate SRA-L FOU with the BS82 the symmetrical version of OVPTM is
required. The SRA-L already provides the support for PCM30 interfaces and RS232
configuration ports.
The RS232 interfaces can be connected to a configuration PC (personal computer),
which is used for setup purposes. In addition to the SRA-L FOU a dedicated
ADD-ON module, A:TIFMW (terrestrial interface by microwave) is required providing the
overvoltage protection for the power lines and alarm lines of the SRA-L FOU.

Using only one SRA-L usually requires only two PCM lines being connected to OVPTM
PCM port 1 and 2. They are located on terminal block 3 and 2 as shown in Fig. 2.20 and
Tab. 2.5 and Tab. 2.6.
Also the RS-232 lines need to be connected to the corresponding clamps on the
terminal block 3.

2.9.7 Connection of Environmental Alarms

To connect the environmental alarm lines (ENVA0...ENVA15), an ERNI SMC (26 pin)
connector ACPSC/DCPSC is used, accessible after removal of the backplane cover.
The cable for environmental alarms have to be pulled through the cable inlet.
The outer diameter of the cable must not exeed 11mm, wire diameter max. AWG 20.
For EMC requirements it is necessary to connect the outer screen of the cable housing
of the BS82.The cable inlet offers the possibility to connect the screen via spring leaves.

2.9.8 Antenna Connections

The BS82 can be connected to external TRX antennas. The antenna configuration and
the required cabling are dependent on the site.
Single cell: One BS82 on site is serving one cell:
Multi cell: One BS82 on site is serving more than one cell, up to 4 cells per cabinet and
up to 8 cells if an extension cabinet is installed one site.
For detailed information refer to the site-specific documentation or use the
corresponding customer documents.
For installation and service purposes it is useful to know, which hardware is connected
to which cell. The numbering, seen from the top of the antenna pole, starts at an
azimuth angle of 0˚ (north) and rotates clockwise.
The first existing cell whose beam centre line lies at 0˚ or more, is defined as
cell 0 or sector 0. The next one following in the same direction cell is cell 1 etc.
In case of omni cell the cell no. is 0.

Super flexible jumper cables with a max. diameter of 1/2” have to be used to connect
the external antennas with the N-type female connectors at the cable inlet at the bottom
of the cabinet.
With regard to overvoltage protection it is recommended to ground the outer
conductor of antenna feeder cables where they are connected with the jumper cables
outside the BS82.

The internal antenna cables are pre-installed by the factory in accordance with the
required antenna configuration of the customer.
All unused holes for antenna connectors at the cable inlet are closed by plastic stoppers,
called dummy connectors. The stoppers are absolutely required for IP-protection of the
cabinet.

2.10 Installation of Extension Cabinet

The function of the extension cabinet is to extend the number of carriers up to eight.
The extension cabinet is equipped with modules indentical to those in the master
cabinet, exepted core module (COBAM).
For installation of the extension cabinet proceed in the same way as described in the
chapters before.
Master cabinet and extension cabinet are connected via the extension cable and the
potential balancing wire.
Because there are available pre-manufactured connection cables in 4 different lengths,
i the max. distance between master cabinet and extension cabinet must not exeed 8
metres in case of indoor application and 2 metres in case of outdoor
application.

The extension cables will be fitted through the cable inlet at the positions as shown in
Fig. 2.33. The figure above shows the different locations of the extension interfaces
dependend on the function of the cabinet (master cabinet or extension cabinet).

2.10.1 Installation of the Extension Cables

The communication between the master unit and extension unit is performed via up to
4 CCLinks and the CAN-bus.
For this reason an extension cable has to be routed between backplane of the master
cabinet and the backplane of the extension cabinet.
The extension cable consist of a flexible metal tube, the CAN-Bus cable and the CCLink
cable inside.
The end of the cable to be connected to the master cabinet is marked with a label.
The CAN Bus is necessary to transmit alarm and control messages from the master
cabinet to the extension cabinet and vice versa.
Several signals have to be linked between the master cabinet and the extension cabinet.

– CCLink for 4 Carriers (24 lines)

– CC-On/Off signals (4 lines)
– CAN-Bus (4 lines)
To avoid an additional Overvoltage Protection Circuit for the connections a flexible metal
tube is used.
A enhanced protected flexible metal tube can be used for enhanced lightning and surge
protection ( i.e Protection Level III acc. ENV 61024-1: 1990-03)
(Extension Cable V2 metal tube).
Four different lengths of of Extension Cables are provided: 8m, 4m, 2m and 1,4m.
i Cable length means the length of the outer metal tube.

After the installation of the Extension Cable, the DIP-switch for CAN-Bus termination
have to be switched in the correct position (see ITMN:BTSE BS82). The location of the
switch is shown in Fig. 2.34.
The extension cable and the potential balancing wire must be fortified so, that they
i cannot be moved. The cables cannot hang down. The cables could break if they will be
moved with very deep temperatures.

2.10.2 Installation of the Potential Balancing Wire

To provide a better, low impedance between the master cabinet and the extension
cabinet a potential balancing wire, with a cross section of 16 mm2 is used.
This potential balancing wire will be connected to the mounting frame of both cabinets.
For this purpose the mounting frame provides a M6 screw.
According to the lenght of the extension cables, 4 different types of the wire are
available ( 1,4 m, 2 m, 4 m and 8 m)

2.11 Removal of Modules

For reducing the weight of the BS82 cabinets during the mounting procedure, it can be
useful to remove several modules, especially the DCUs.
Module replacement requires special tools. For replacing a module the shelter has to be
opened. The doors at both sides of the eMicro have to be opened (as shown in
Fig. 2.13) and the TORX screws on the front plates of the modules have to be
unfastened. To pull the modules a grip has to be matched on the module with 2 screws.
Before pulling a module the respective screws and the cables at the backplane have to
i be unfastened!

Before pulling out make sure, that all backplane connections of the module, which will
! be removed are disconnected.
Pay attention to the weight of approx. 14 kg of the Dual Carrier Units.
Pay attention to the fact, that modules can be hot, if they will be pulled out, immedately
after switching off the base station.
