IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction Good day class! How are you today?
Today is an exciting day for us because we will learn new lesson.
We can see directions or instructions everywhere. They guide us on
what to do---from simple school activities to cooking our favorite food.
Writing clear directions helps the reader understand it better and avoid
mistakes or accidents. A young learner like you should learn how to write
clear directions using signal words.

Drill:
Directions: Write the correct sequence of events in washing our hands.
Use the signal words first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth.
______, squirt a dab of soap onto one palm.
______, make sure it is not too cold.
______, rub your hands together. Wait until bubbles are all over them.
______, turn on the water.

In your previous module you studied about adverbs of manner, place,
and time. Let’s see how much you know about your previous lesson.

A Journey to Grandma’s House


Last Saturday, Jean and her brother Carl, walked to their Grandma’s
house. First, they stopped by the fruit store and purchased an apple for
each of them.
Next, they ate the apple as they walked going to the park.
Then, while crossing through the park, Carl picked some wildflowers
for Grandma.
After that, they leaped over a barrier and left the park. Jean waved
hello to Mr. Ramos and helped him catch some newspaper the wind had
caught.
Finally, Jean and Carl arrived at Grandma’s house. She came and
gave them both a big hug and a plate of cookies.

Questions:
1. Who walked to their Grandma’s house?
2. When did they walk to their Grandma’s house?
3. Where did they go first?
4. What did they do next?
5. What did Carl do then?
6. After that, who did Jean help, what did she do?

SIGNAL WORDS
 help the readers see which important details will be developed in a
sequential pattern
 indicate order
 tell what is to happen
 use for arranging events
 use in giving directions

Examples of signal words:


first first

then third
after that fourth
finally or lastly fifth

DIRECTIONS
 provide a guide on how to perform or finish an action.
 Once followed properly they will give positive results.
 In writing directions using signal words, always put comma (,) after each
signal word.
 In writing directions, it is important to use clear steps to help someone
finish a task properly and can help avoid accidents and problems along
the way.

HOW TO MAKE A CUP OF TEA


First, boil some water.
Next, serve the water in a cup.
Then, put the teabag in the hot water.
After that, add some sugar and milk.
Finally, serve while it’s hot.

In this time of pandemic (Covid19), we need to be safe from the virus.
