Relation and Functions

1) Let f : R →R be defined as f(x) = 10x + 7. Find the function g : R →R such that gof = fog = IR,
where IR is Identity function on set of real numbers

(𝑥−2)
2) Let A = R – {3} and B = R – {1}. Consider a function f: A→B defined by f(x) = .
(𝑥−3)
Show that f is one-one and onto. Hence find f-1.

3) Let N denote the set of all natural numbers and R be the relation on N x N defined by (a, b)R(c, d) if
ad(b + c) = bc(a + d). Show that R is an equivalence relation.

4) Let A = {x : x  N and 0  x  18} and R ={(𝑎, b) ∶ |𝑎 − b| is divisible by 4} be relation on the set A.

Show that R is an equivalence relation. Find equivalence class of [3] and [7].

5) Prove that the function 𝑓: [0, ) ⟶ [−5, ), given by 𝑓(𝑥) = 9𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 − 5 is a bijective function
and hence find 𝑓 −1.

7) Prove that sin−1 (13) + cos −1 (5) + tan−1 (16) =𝜋

√1+sin 𝑥+ √1−sin 𝑥 𝑥 𝜋
8) Prove the following cot −1 ( ) = 2 , 𝑥 ∈ (0, 4 )
√1+sin 𝑥 − √1−sin 𝑥
