5. A housing society wants to commission a swimming pool for its residents. For this, they have

and cost for the whole pool is ₹ 4000 (depth)2 .
Suppose the side of the square plot is 𝑥 metres and depth is h metres.
On the basis of the above information, answer the following questions :
(i) Write cost 𝐶(ℎ) as a function in terms of h.
(ii) Find critical point.
(iii) (a) Use second derivative test to find the value of h for which cost of constructing the
pool is minimum. What is the minimum cost of construction of the pool ?

(iii) (b) Use first derivative test to find the depth of the pool so that cost of construction is
minimum. Also, find relation between x and h for minimum cost.

6. In order to set up a rain water harvesting system, a tank to collect rain water is to be dug. The
tank should have a square base and a capacity of 250 𝑚3 . The cost of land is ₹ 5,000 per square
metre and cost of digging increases with depth and for the whole tank, it is ₹ 40,000 ℎ2 , where
h is the depth of the tank in metres. x is the side of the square base of the tank in meters.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions :
(i) Find the total cost C of digging the tank in terms of 𝑥.

employees James, Sophia and Oliver process incoming copies of a certain form. James

forms. James has an error rate of 0.06, Sophia has an error rate of 0.04 and Oliver has an error
rate of 0.03.
(i) Find the probability that Sophia processed the form and committed an error.
(ii) Find the total probability of committing an error in processing the form.
(iii) (a) The manager of the Company wants to do a quality check. During inspection, he selects
a form at random from the days output of processed form. If the form selected at random has
an error, find the probability that the form is not processed by James.
