1. What is genetic engineering?

Genetic engineering is a direct manipulation of a genes by recombinant DNA

technology.

2. What are restriction enzymes? Ligases? How are these enzymes employed in
recombinant DNA research?

In the advancement of recombinant DNA technology and genetic engineering, the

restriction enzyme is crucial. DNA-cutting enzymes are enzymes that split or cut DNA into
fragments. Ligases, on the other hand, are DNA joining enzymes that unite two sections of
DNA with matching ends to make a single intact molecule of DNA.

3. Explain how recombinant DNA molecules are usually constructed.

We can manipulate recombinant DNA by using two different types of enzymes. By

cutting and re-joining the molecules with the help of constraints and ligases enzymes, we
can merge the two separate sources of DNA.

4. Would genetic engineering be possible if restriction enzymes did not exist? Explain.

No, we can't change or manipulate recombinant DNA without this type of enzyme.
In the field of genetic engineering and DNA recombinant technologies, it is significant. We
can't join two DNA molecules without cutting one of them.
