Preface
I express my deep sense of gratitude to Allah SWT for giving me health, opportunity
and help me to accomplish this learning material, and submit it in time. This learning material
is develop for help the students in ninth grade junior high school to improve their English
skill especially identify Procedure Text (recipe ). This learning material contains the
introduction, main section and conclusion. The purpose of this learning material are to help
the students able to (1) identify the social function, generic structure and language features
used in Procedure Text, (2) apply the language features, social function and generic structure
in procedure text (3) produce procedure text specifically about recipe which deals with the
appropriate with the social function, generic structure and language features related to their
environment.
The contents of this learning material are presented with scientific approach dealing
with observing, questioning, collecting information, associating and communicating in
Making text specifically about recipe. I hope this learning material can give the students
impact in order to reach the knowledge and competencies.

( RECIPE)
A. INTRODUCTION
In this chapter, we will learn about Procedure Text, specifically about recipe. We will learn
how to make good pronunciation. We focus on objects relation to recipe. We learn about
identify and pronunciation about recipe.
1. Short Description
Procedure Text is a text that explain how something work or how to use instruction/
operation manuals. It can definite as text that instruct how to do a particular activity
and text that deal with human behavior.
Its purpose is to explain/tell the reader how to make/ operate/ do something through
sequence of actions or steps and to explain steps/ instruction to make/ operate/ do
something.
2. Relevance
The main objective of this learning material is to help you for understanding the
definition of Procedure text, specifically in pronunciation Recipe . You also need to
know the benefit of the text, which include the social function. You are expected to
identify the language features (words, phrases, sentences) that are mostly applied in
this kind of text. Having such knowledge you will be able to pronunciation texts
correctly.
3. Learning Guide
This chapter is divided in three sections. Those are: (A) Introduction that introduces
the definition of teaching material, (B) Main section that leads the students to observe
and study: a. Definition of procedure text, b. Social function, c. generic structure, d.
language features, there are 2. task 1 and 3. task 2 and 4. discussion available in this
chapter. (C) Closing section that expects the readers to make summary of material and
project based learning.

Recipe is a text that explains or helps us how to make something. The following are the social
function of recipe :
• Recipe is used to describe how food is completely made or cooked through a sequence of
series
• Communicative purpose of recipe is to describe how food is completely made through a
sequence of action or steps
c. Generic Structure
Generic structures are the special characteristic of language in the text. The generic
structure of procedure text are:

2. Materials or tools
3. Steps or method
d. Language Features
• Use adverbial of sequence / using temporal conjunction (e.g : first, second, third, the
last )
• Use command / imperative sentence ( e.g : put the rice,…cut the onion )
• Use adverbials ( adverb) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate. ( e.g : for
two minutes, a half hour, etc )
• Use action verbs ( e.g : Make, take, cook )
• Use present tense
