gracious mercy and tremendous blessing that enables me to accomplish this
English Materials for learners at the grade 9

The purpose in writing this English material is to to train the independence of


students of class IX in obtaining knowledge.

In arranging this English material, the writer truly get lots challenges and
obstructions but with help of many individuals, those obstructions could passed.
writer also realized there are still many mistakes in process of writing this English
material.

Because of that, the writer says thank you to all individuals who helps in the process
of writing this paper. hopefully Allah replies all helps and bless you all. The writer
realized that this English material still imperfect in arrangement and the content.
then the writer hopes the criticism from the readers can help the writer in
perfecting the next module. Last but not the least Hopefully, this module can help
the readers to gain more knowledge about English.

a. Definition Procedure text ; recipe
What is procedure text?
Do you understand what procedure text is? Have you ever read any
procedure texts? Do you know the function of procedure text?
To answer these, this will provide you some comprehension about
procedure text.

Procedure text : recipe is a text that contain a list of ingredients and a set of instructions that tell you
how to cook something

b. Social Function
to describe how food is completely made or cooked through a sequence of series.

c. Generic structure
The followings are the generic structure of procedure texts:

Goal/aim This part of the text describes the purpose of doing or operating
something

This part describes the materials or equipment needed in the


Materials/equipment process of doing or operating something. It is important to note
that some of procedure texts do not provide materials section

Steps/methods This part describes the set of instructions in order to achieve the
goal

d. Language Features
There are several language features that are commonly used in constructing a procedure text :
 Using adverbial of sequence or using temporal adjective
We use the sequence adverbs to describe the order in which two or more actions happen.
For example first, second, the last, etc
 Using imperative sentences or command
Imperative sentences are used to give a command or instruction, make a request, or offer
advice. Basically, they tell people what to do. Below, you'll find some imperative
sentence examples and learn about their function.
Imperative sentences usually end with a period but can occasionally end with an
exclamation point.
 Using action verbs
An action verb is a verb that expresses physical or mental action. The action verb tells us
what the subject of our clause or sentence is doing-physically or mentally.
For example :

Stir cut
 Using conjunctions to link a process to another process
Some of the conjunctions that show a sequence of process here are such as: then, after
that, etc
 Generally using simple present tense
The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the simple present tense
when an action is happening right now, or when it happens regularly

F. EXAMPLES OF PROCEDURE TEXT ; RECIPE

HOW TO MAKE SEBLAK

Material :
Crackers kanji 50 gr
Can add meatballs, sausage, cut into thin
1 chicken egg in the whipped
1 stalk green onion, finely sliced
1 stalk celery, chopped
Fried onions, adjust
Soy sauce, adjust
Right amount of oil
Cayenne 5 pieces
Red onion 2 cloves Materials
1 clove garlic
Kemiri 1 pieces
Kencur 3 cm

Steps :
 First, Heat water to boiling, and soak raw crackers until melted and drain. Add a little cooking
oil that is not sticky and flat crackers.
Imperative sentences
 Second, seasoning mashed pulverized and saute until fragrant smell
 Third, add meatballs, sausage that is cut, celery, leek then stir. Action verbs
 Fourth, put crackers that have been drained before, mix well.
 Fifth, add the beaten eggs and mix again rather quickly so that the eggs quickly clot. Add
a little water, salt and flavoring to taste. Conjuctions
 Sixth, let stand briefly until the water is somewhat reduced, and then enter a bit of soy sauce
so that it feels more powerful and stirring constantly until blended.
 Seventh, prepare a bowl and pour into a bowl and sprinkle with fried onions on top seblak.
 Finally, seblak wet spicy prepared at present and seblak Eat while still warm.
