CHAPTER I

PRELIMINARY

1.1 Background
               In our daily lives we do a lot of activities. From each of these activities, can be told
to others. In telling them there are various ways of delivering them, one of them using text.
               In this 2103 curriculum, the procedural text becomes mandatory material that is
taught for 11th grade high school. To fulfill this task, we made a paper on Text Procedures.

1.2 Problem Formulation


               Based on the background above, the formulation of the problem is as follows:
1. What is the procedure text?
2. What are the general structures of the procedure text?
3. What is the purpose of the procedure text?
4. What is the linguistic characteristic of the procedure text?

1.3 Purpose          
               This writing aims to:
1. Meet the duties of English subjects.
2. Knowing the meaning of the procedure text.
3. Know the structure of the procedure text.
4. Knowing the purpose of the procedure text.
5. Knowing the linguistic characteristics of the procedure text.
6. Can make examples of procedure text.

CHAPTER II
THEORY AND DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition of Procedure Text


There are three definition about procedure text :
(1) Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation
manuals, e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier,
the fax.
(2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity, e.g. recipes, rules for games,
science experiments, road safety rules.
(3) Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed.

2.2 Generic Structure of Procedure Text


1. Aim or Goal : (e.g : How to make spaghetti)
2. Material or Ingredient : (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion, vegetable
oil, etc. )
3. Step : (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., second cut the onions becomes
slice. . . )

2.3 Purpose of Procedure Text


a. To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence
of actions or steps.
b. To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something
2.4 Languange Feature of Procedure Text
a. Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third,
the last)
b. Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the onion.
. ., wash the tomatoes. . . )
c. Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for
example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
d. Using action verbs, e.g : make, take, boil, cook
e. Using Simple Present Tense
2.5 Examples of Procedure Text
How to make a cup of coffee

Aim : To know how to make a cup of coffe

Materials : – a spoon of coffee

– some sugar

– a glass of water

– some chocolate (optional, may use or not)

Steps :

1. Boil a glass of water in the medium heat, until the water becomes hot enough.

2. Put a spoon of coffe in a cup.

3. Add some sugar to the cup, based on your necesserity.

4. Add some chocolate to the cup. (optional, may add or not)

5. After the water had already boiled, pour the water and the coffe in the cup.
6. Mix it together until all of the materials are poured.

7. A cup of hot delicious coffee is ready to serve.

CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION

3.1 Conclusion
               The conclusion of this writing is:
1.      Procedure text is a text that contains a text or series of actions or steps in making an item or
activity
2.      Generic Structure of procedure text are aim or goal, material, and steps.
3.      Procedure text to describe how to make something through asequence of actions or
steps.
4.      Procedure text usually focus of generalized human agent, use mainly action
processes, simple present tense, imperative sentences, and use of temporal
conjuctions.

3.2 Suggest
            We are as writer want to apology for the shortage of this paper. We know that this
paper is still far from perfect. So that we need the suggestion from the readers for the
perfection of this paper.
