Praise be to God Almighty. With God's grace and guidance, we were able to complete
Material Development’s assignment about Descriptive Text on time. And we also don’t
forget to give greetings to Rasulullah SAW whose intercession we are waiting for in the
future.
Writing a paper entitled "Procedure Text" can be abundant because of the help of
many parties. We hope that readers get a new perspective after reading this paper. We
realizes that this paper till needs improvement, especially in the content section. We accept
all forms of criticism and readers for the sake of improving the paper. If there are many
mistakes in this paper, we apologize.

PRELIMINARY

1.1 Background
In our daily lives we do a lot of activities. From each of these activities, can be told to
others. In telling them there are various ways of delivering them, one of them using text.
In this 2103 curriculum, the procedural text becomes mandatory material that is
taught for 11th grade high school. To fulfill this task, we made a paper on Text Procedures.

1.2 Problem Formulation

Based on the background above, the formulation of the problem is as follows:
1. What is the procedure text?
2. What are the general structures of the procedure text?
3. What is the purpose of the procedure text?
4. What is the linguistic characteristic of the procedure text?

1.3 Purpose
This writing aims to:
1. Meet the duties of English subjects.
2. Knowing the meaning of the procedure text.
3. Know the structure of the procedure text.
4. Knowing the purpose of the procedure text.
5. Knowing the linguistic characteristics of the procedure text.
6. Can make examples of procedure text.
 CHAPTER II

THEORY AND DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition of Procedure Text

There are three definition about procedure text :
1. Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation
manuals, e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the
photocopier, the fax.
2. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity, e.g. recipes, rules for games,
science experiments, road safety rules.
3. Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed.

2.2 Generic Structure of Procedure Text

1. Aim or Goal : (e.g : How to make spaghetti)
2. Material or Ingredient : (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion,
vegetable oil, etc. )
3. Step : (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., second cut the onions becomes
slice. . . )

2.3 Purpose of Procedure Text

1. To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence
of actions or steps.
2. To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something

2.4 Languange Feature of Procedure Text

1. Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third,
the last)
2. Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the
onion. . ., wash the tomatoes. . . )
3. Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for
example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
4. Using action verbs, e.g : make, take, boil, cook
5. Using Simple Present Tense
2.5 Examples of Procedure Text

1. How to Make Fried Banana

Ingredients:

• 1 ripe black-skinned plantain or 4 small finger banana (make sure that the
banana is sweet)
• 1 tsp. sugar
• 1 egg
• 6 tbs. flour
• a pinch of salt
• water
• vegetable oil for deep frying

Steps/ Instruction:

1. Place flour in a deep mixing bowl. Make a well in the middle of the flour, and
add egg, sugar and salt. Add water little by little. Whisk vigorously until batter
is evenly smooth for coating and not too thin. If it is too thin, add more flour.
2. Peel plantain or banana and cut in half lengthwise and then cut again with 4-
inch width. Dip into batter to coat generously.
3. Heat oil in a wok or deep fryer until moderately hot. Place coated plantain or
banana in the wok or deep fryer and fry slowly until golden brown and crispy.
This usually take approximately 10-15 minutes. Remove bananas from oil,
drain on paper napkins and dry well.
4. Serve while still warm.

2. How to Use a Printer

You need:

Steps/ Intruction :

1. Using a printer even basic printer is extremely easy to do. There are many
different models of printers out there. You have your very basic to your all-in-
one printer. The printer with everything on it works pretty much just like the
regular printer you just have a lot more buttons to push
2. Make sure that your printer is hooked up properly before using it. If this is a
brand new printer then it will go through a check and print out a test page for
you. A lot of different times you can just turn it on, you will hear the ink
moving around. Something might come up on the computer telling you that the
printer is on and working properly.
3. Open the page you want to print. If you are on the Internet and want to print
something from there. All you have to do is go up to file, then down to page
 set up. This will give you more printing options to choose from. When you are
done setting up the page you can verify you have the right printer hooked up
by clicking on “Printer” at the bottom. Once everything looks good click on
“OK” and now your page should print out.
4. Open up a “.doc” file if that is where your page is that you need to print. When
you are ready to print go up to “File” and “Print Setup”. Again you can choose
how you want your page to look, and check and make sure the right printer is
installed. If your page is set up the way you like it you can just click on the
printer icon on the tool bar or go to “File” then “Print.”
5. Using a printer a lot over time will start to wear down your ink supply. Some
models of printers let you know when your ink supply is getting low. If you
have an older printer you will just have to go by what the printed page looks
like. If it is very worn and faded then it is time to install a new ink cartridge.
 CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

3.1 Conclusion
The conclusion of this writing is:
1. Procedure text is a text that contains a text or series of actions or steps in
making an item or activity
2. Generic Structure of procedure text are aim or goal, material, and steps.
3. Procedure text used to describe how to make something through asequence of
actions or steps.
4. Procedure text usually focus of generalized human agent, use mainly action
processes, simple present tense, imperative sentences, and use of temporal
conjuctions.

3.2 Suggest
We are not perfect. Therefore we don't know everything. When we want to make
something or do something but we don't know how to do it right, we will ask other people
how to do it. But what if the person we ask doesn't know how or is confused about how to
explain it? This is where the text procedure comes in handy. Text procedures make it easier
for us to understand the instructions we want to know. Therefore it is important to learn text
procedures.
