PROCEDURE TEXT

What is the procedure text?


Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how to make or use something. Its social
function is to describe how something is completely done through a sequence of steps. The
communicative purpose of this text is to describe how something is made through a sequence
of actions or steps. There are three generic structures in the procedure text. The first is goals
or purposes. The second is the materials or tools. The third and the last are steps or methods.
To know the text that we read is a procedure or not is so simple. You can read the title if the
title is started with ‘how to make…’ or ‘how to use…’ it can be certainly defined that the text
is procedure text.
Definition of Procedure Text
There are three definitions of procedure text :
(1)Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction/operation manuals e.g.
how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax.
(2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science
experiments, road safety rules.
(3) Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed
Generic Structure of Procedure Text
# Goal : (e.g: How to make …………..)
# Material or Ingredient : (e.g: the material to cook omelet are egg, onion, vegetable oil, etc. )
# Step : (e.g: first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., the second cut the onions becomes slice. . )
Purpose of Procedure Text
To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of actions
or steps.
To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something
Language Feature of Procedure Text:
Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the last)
Use command / imperative sentence (e.g: put the noodles on the . . ., cut the onion. . ., wash
the tomatoes.
Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurately, for example,
for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
–Using action verbs, e.g: make, take, boil, cook

Example 1
How to Change Zoom Virtual Background
Generally, we can use any background for Zoom meetings. There are also several
backgrounds that have been provided by Zoom. If you want to change it, then follow these
steps.
1. First, open the Zoom application via a laptop device, then enter the “Settings” button.
2. Second, select the “Background and Filters” button.
3. If using a smartphone, you must join the meeting first. Then, press the three dots at the
bottom right and open the “More” menu.
4. After that, go to the “Virtual Background” page.
5. If you want to upload a photo to be used as a background, then press the plus sign (+) in
the menu. Then just select the photo you want to upload.
6. Apart from that, you can also select “Video Filter” which is available next to the “Virtual
Backgrounds” menu.
7. Then, your new virtual background is ready to use.

How To Use Online Transportation
Firstly, you have to open online transportation application on your phone.
Secondly, you have to set your pick up point (exactly on the right point) and set your
destination point (as set on GPS).
After that, book your order and wait until your driver comes.
Then, Go to your destination. Enjoy your time with the driver.
Finally, when you arrive at your destination, you have to pay for the bill in cash or you can
choose a non-cash transaction.

How to Make Brownies
Ingredients
• 150gram of butter.
• 150gram of dark chocolate.
• 300 gram of flour
• 4 eggs.
• 600 gram of regular sugar

Steps
1. Melt the chocolate with the butter.
2. Stir the eggs with the sugar and the vanilla extract.
3. Preheat the oven at low temperature
4. Combine the mixes you made.
5. Add the flour and stir with a wooden spoon.
6. Grease a brownie tin.
7. Add a little flour to cover the tin.
8. Add the brownie dough.
9. Bake for 10-30 minutes.
10. To check the brownies, put a knife in the mix. The knife must be moist!
11. Eat them 15 minutes after you took them out of the oven.
