3.3 Students are able to distinguish social functions, text structures, and linguistic elements of
several spoken and written procedural texts by giving and asking for information related to
manuals for using technology and tips, short and simple, according to the context of their use
4.3 Procedure text
4.3.1 Students are able to understand meaning contextually related to social functions, text
structure, and linguistic elements of spoken and written procedural texts, in the form of
manuals related to the use of technology and tips
4.3.2 Students are able to compile oral and written procedural texts, in the form of manuals
related to the use of technology and tips, taking into account social functions, text structure,
and linguistic elements, correctly and in context

While the learning objectives of learning procedure text are:


1. Students are expected to be able to know social functions, text structures, and
linguistic elements of several procedural texts by identifying the text
2. Students are expected to be able to know social functions, text structures, and
linguistic elements of several procedural texts by analyzing the text
3. Students are expected to be able to analyze the informations of oral and written
procedural texts, in the form of manuals related to the use of technology and tips,
taking into account social functions, text structure, and linguistic elements, correctly
and in context
4. Students are expected to be able to create oral and written procedural texts, in the
form of manuals related to the use of technology and tips, taking into account social
functions, text structure, and linguistic elements, correctly and in context

5. Take a picture as a proof that you are learning English (you and the material) then

ACTIVITY 4 (ANSWER)

1. GOAL : How to make omelet


2. MATERIAL
 Ingredients : Eggs, salt, and the vegetables oil
 Equipments : Bowl, pan, stove, plate

3. STEP : 1. First, best these eggs in the bowl


2. Add some salt
3. Put the frying pan on stove
4. Then, put some vegetables oil in that frying pan
5. Then, pour the eggs into the pan
6. Wait until it is hard, and then fold it
7. Finally serve it while warm

Summary :
Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a
sequence of actions or steps.

1. Social function
 To describe how something is done. Procedure helps us do a task or make something.

2.       The structure of the text


● Goal/aim ( or title) such as, how to make a glass of milk, how to make a cup of tea,
etc.
● Materials (it is contains of the materials that used in the process) such as, a glass, a
cup,   etc.
● Steps (the actions that must be taken) such as, First, boil water. Second, put some tea
into a cup. Second, put some tea into a cup, etc.

3.     Language features of procedure text     


● Simple present tenses. And:
● Use of action verbs (e.g.: turn, put, mix)
● Use of connectives (e.g. : first, then, finally, …) 
● Use of adverbial phrases (e.g. : for five minutes, 2 centimeters from the top)

4.      Example of procedure text


   How to make a cup of tea
Materials:
– hot water
– tea
– sugar
– glass/cup
Steps:
1. First, prepare all the materials
2. Then, boil the water
3. Third, put the tea and sugar into the glass
4. Next, pour hot water into the glass
5. Then, stir the sugar, tea, and hot water at once until the sugar dissolves and the water
becomes hard brown
6. Finally, the tea is ready to serve
