SOCIAL FUNCTION OF PROCEDURE TEXT

1. show how something is done through sequence of steps which enable the
reader to achieve the goal.

GENERIC STRUCTURE OF PROCEDURE TEXT

• 1. Goal: provides information about the aims and objectives of the procedure
and predicts a conclusion.
• 2. Materials: contains a list of materials or materials needed to perform a
procedure or steps.
• 3. Steps: lists the sequence of instructions / activities to reach the goal in the
correct sequence of steps.
• 4. Result: The result of a series of steps that have been taken.
CHARACTERISTIC OF PROCEDURE TEXT

1. Usually Using the Simple Present Tense with the formula (S + V1)
2. Imperative / command form,
3. Using the verbs action, for example: make, take, boil, cook,
4. Using temporal conjunctions, for example: First, then, next, after that, last
5. Using conjunctions (conjunctions) to sequence activities, for example then, while, etc.

TYPES OF PROCEDURE TEXT

• Procedure text in English has several types. Here are 3 types of text procedure that you
should know.
1. Procedure text that describes how something works or how to use an instruction / manual
operation, for example, how to use a computer, how to record a video. how to use

3. Procedure text that instructs how to do certain activities, for example, how to make a
noodle, how to dance, how to play basketball.
4. Text procedures related to human behavior, for example, how to succeed, how to live
happily, how to be a good person.
