Throughout my years of growing up in school I interacted with many teachers.

The

teachers that made a lasting impact in my life are the ones I will always remember, and want to

be like when I become a teacher myself. The characteristics the teachers had were what made me

feel safe, loved, and valued in the classroom. These characteristics were compassion,

understanding, and patient. I knew from a young age I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up

because of the teachers that impacted me and cared enough about me to make sure I given a

quality education while loving me as a person at the same time.

I believe as an educator it is our job to pave the way for our students’ success. No matter

what age a person plans to teach each grade level is important to help the child grow and develop

into the person they were made to be. I want to be the teacher that believes in my students, and

my students can feel the love and compassion I pour into them. If I can show my students that I

love them and believe in them they will have the confidence to do their best work, and succeed

throughout their career as a student. My classroom needs to be a safe learning environment with

order and proper classroom management. Children cannot learn in chaos, and it is our job to

make sure the students are learning in an orderly and safe place.

I want my students to have a growth mindset when they enter my classroom. If I want my

students to have a growth mindset then I need to instill the confidence in each of my students that

they are capable and worthy of achieving their dreams. By doing this I will invest time into my

students and tap into their prior knowledge to teach them new skills that can also be used in real

life situations. By building off of their prior knowledge this will help them understand new

concepts they are being taught, and is sure to instill the confidence they need to know that they

are capable of learning new things and applying them to real situations that might occur in their

lives. If my students can wake up each day knowing that I believe in them and genuinely want
what is best for them then learning will become something they crave and are excited about

doing.

One thing that the teachers that impacted me most did was focus on was creativity.

Creativity is not always arts and crafts, but it is also a way to help apply problem solving skills

into the real world. The creativity I want to foster in my classroom will not look like arts and

crafts. It will look like wording questions differently to get my students thinking a different way.

Student do not all learn in one unison form, so it is important to make sure you are creative as a

teacher to come up with different ways to make sure every student is reached and understood. It

will be important for me to model creativity in my classroom. One way to model this creativity is

to give the students a real world, but age-appropriate problem and tell them I have found two

ways to solve this issue, but now I need help coming up with a third. This not only fosters

creativity and gets students thinking, but it gives them the confidence and skills to know that

they can solve problems and there are different ways to reach resolutions.

It is my goal to make sure my students are not only safe and loved, but feel safe and

loved. By giving my students the skills to be creative, have a growth mindset, and the confidence

to be who they were meant to be will help pave their way for the years ahead in their educational

careers. My students will go through their lives knowing I poured my compassion into their

lives, and that I cared about their success and well-being while in my classroom even if it was for

a short time. I want to make every day count.
