3.1. Explain the difference between attribute control charts and variable control
charts.

- Attribute control charts plot count data, for example the number of defects or
defective units, while variable control charts plot continuous measurement
process data, such as length or pressure, in a time ordered sequence.

3.2. Select three service companies or organizations you are familiar with and
indicate how process control charts could be used in each.

DHL – they have processes like Key Performance Indicators to measure


customer satisfaction and it can also handle customer complaints.

Quicklean – they can use attribute control charts to determine the defective
units of washing machines.

Kumon – they can use variable control charts to plot improvement of


students over time, in a time ordered sequence.

3.3. Select a local fast-food restaurant, retail store, grocery store, or bank, and
identify the different processes that control charts could be used to monitor.

- McDonalds’ should work more on the quality of their workforce to improve


their operations. All employees can be measured by the quality of work that
can also be categorized through a control chart measuring their average
handling time in giving service to customers. They could also maintain their
JIT inventory system by applying a stock control chart in which the manager
can identify the remaining stocks, what needs to be replenished and they can
also double check the sales and identify what is the bestselling product.
