NOTE: The smart junction box (SJB) may also be identified as the generic electronic
module (GEM).
Power Window System - The power window system operates under the control of the accessory delay relay.
The SJB grounds the relay coil to provide power to the power window system.
Power Window Control - The power window system can be operated from the driver window control switch
or from the window control switch located on the passenger door panel. The driver window control switch has 2
modes of operation for the driver power window, manual and auto. The passenger window operates in the
manual mode only.
Manual mode moves the window downward until the switch is released. The driver power window will operate
in the manual mode when the driver window control switch is pressed to the first detent position.
Auto mode provides the one-touch down (OTD) feature for the driver front power window. The OTD function
allows the driver front power window to be completely lowered when the driver window control switch is
pressed to the second detent position and then released. OTD is controlled by the driver window control switch.
Quarter Glass - The quarter glass is standard on SuperCab vehicles. The fixed quarter glass is held in place
using nuts and uses urethane adhesive for wind/water sealing.
Back Window Glass - The back window glass is standard plastic and glass laminate safety glass. The back
window glass may be split with a sliding window or a one-piece window.
Windshield Glass - The windshield glass is standard plastic and glass laminate safety glass. The windshield
glass is bonded to the window opening flange with urethane adhesive.
Front Door Glass - The front door glass is standard plastic and laminate safety glass. The front door glass is
lowered and raised manually or with the optional power window controls.

Principles of Operation
The power window system receives power from the accessory delay relay. The accessory delay relay receives
fused ignition voltage when the key is in either the RUN or ACC position. When the accessory delay relay is
energized, it supplies power to the master power window control switch.
The power windows can be operated from the individual window switch located on each door panel. The
passenger power window can be operated from the driver (master) power window switch. The driver side
window has 2 modes of operation: manual and auto. In manual mode, the window control switch will move the
window down until the switch is released.
Auto mode provides one-touch down (OTD) operation for the driver window only. The OTD function moves
the driver window to the full open position when the master power window switch is momentarily pressed and
released.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before
proceeding to the next step.
NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove out confirms power
and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
NOTE: The smart junction box (SJB) may also be identified as the generic
electronic module (GEM).
8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go the SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DTC
CHART. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
10. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart.

Normal Operation
Under normal operation, voltage is supplied to the delayed accessory relay coil and switch internally through
the smart junction box (SJB). The SJB controls the coil side ground of the delayed accessory relay and activates
the delayed accessory relay when the ignition switch is in the ON position. The accessory delay relay remains
active for an additional 10 minutes when the ignition switch is in the OFF position or until the driver door is
opened.

glass. This will leave the entire urethane adhesive bead on the pinch weld
and allow a dry fit of the replacement windshield glass.
NOTE: Support the windshield glass as necessary to prevent the glass from
dropping while cutting the urethane adhesive.
9. Insert the special tool at the upper center of the windshield glass and work toward the bottom corners.
10. Using the special tool, distance the windshield glass from the body.
11. Using the special tool, cut the remaining urethane adhesive and carefully remove the windshield glass and
place on a stable work surface.

INSTALLATION
1. Dry fit the windshield glass on the existing urethane bead on the pinch weld.
Position the windshield glass on the pinch weld.
Adjust the windshield glass stop blocks (if equipped) as needed for best fit.
Make alignment marks with tape or non-staining grease pencil (preferably at the windshield glass
stop blocks, if equipped) on the windshield glass and the body.
2. After the dry-fit alignment, remove the glass from the windshield opening and place on a stable work
surface with the interior side of the glass facing up.
3. Using a clean shop towel, brush or oil-free compressed air, clean the pinch weld area around the existing
urethane. Remove any foreign material or water that may have entered during windshield removal.
WARNING: Repair any corrosion found on the pinch weld. The pinch weld is a
structural component of the vehicle. Corrosion left unrepaired may
reduce the structural integrity of the vehicle. Failure to follow this
instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
NOTE: Avoid scratching the pinch weld. For minor scratches or exposed metal on
the pinch weld, see the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Using an appropriate tool, trim the urethane adhesive leaving a 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 in) base of original
equipment urethane on the pinch weld.

5. If reinstalling the same windshield glass, remove the remaining urethane adhesive from the glass leaving
a thin layer to bond with the new urethane bead.
6. Clean the inside of the glass surface with glass cleaner.
NOTE: Be sure to use the same brand and cure-rate products for the adhesive
and primer. Do not mix different brands of urethane and primer. Refer to
the Material Chart.
NOTE: Sika uses the same black primer for the glass and pinch weld area.
7. If installing a new windshield glass, apply urethane glass primer according to manufacturer's instructions.
Allow at least 6 minutes to dry.
8. Cut the urethane applicator tip to specification.
NOTE: Use either a high-ratio, electric or battery-operated caulk gun that will
apply the urethane with less effort and a continuous bead.
9. Apply urethane adhesive on top of the existing trimmed urethane adhesive bead on the pinch weld. Make
sure that all gaps in the urethane adhesive are smoothed into one continuous bead starting and ending at
the bottom of the windshield near the center.

WARNING: Do not drive vehicle until the urethane adhesive seal has cured.
Follow urethane adhesive manufacturer's curing directions.
Inadequate or incorrect curing of the urethane adhesive seal will
adversely affect glass retention. Failure to follow these instructions
may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
10. Position the windshield glass, aligning the marks made previously.
NOTE: The urethane adhesive must cure for a minimum of one hour before
testing for air or water leaks.
11. Check the installation for air and water leaks through the urethane bond and add urethane adhesive where
needed.
12. Install the A-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM &
ORNAMENTATION article.
13. Install the inside rear view mirror. For additional information, refer to REAR VIEW MIRRORS article.
14. Install the sun visor clips.
15. Install the sun visors.

REMOVAL
NOTE: If the rear quarter window glass is being removed to repair a dust/water leak,
remove and reinstall the existing rear quarter window glass.
1. Remove the rear door trim panel or C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR
TRIM & ORNAMENTATION article.
2. Remove the rear quarter window glass nuts.
NOTE: Use only a plastic windshield setting tool to slide under the seal to
separate the foam core butyl from the glass. Once the glass starts to
separate from the body, constant hand pressure will break the seal and the
glass can be removed. Failure to use a plastic windshield setting tool can
damage the body or the glass frame.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Remove as much as possible of the foam core butyl from the body and
rear quarter window glass prior to installation.
3. Install the rear door trim panel or C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR
TRIM & ORNAMENTATION article.
