Dear Student

Welcome to our Institute!

We are pleased to introduce you to the new English textbook: “Crossing Bridges”, written by our two institutions. Our aim has
been to produce friendly material that makes you feel more comfortable with your learning process by relating or contrasting
your own world and context with that of the foreign language.
The book you have in your hands is not only the result of the work carried out by a number of highly experienced teachers
but it is also based on research findings among former students in order to learn what they would like to find in their textbook
when learning this language.
We do hope to have been able to capture some of their ideas about the content, the activities, cultural readings and others
so as to contribute with more knowledge about the world in general but also about the world of English.
Succeed in English with joy!

We use greetings to say hello and goodbye in English. Greetings are

important in all cultures. We can use different greetings for a friend,
family or a business associate. For friends, use informal greetings.
We use formal greetings with people you do not know very well
or business. Actions are also important in greetings. In Chile and
England we give a handshake for formal greetings. In Chile, for informal
greetings we kiss more than in England. In Japan, people bow to show
respect.

We need to store in our long term memory (LTM) by "chunking", using

by the National Fund for Regional Development and Enap (the
Chilean government owned oil company). It will cost about six
million dollars.
The plan begins with three turbines, 80 metres tall and which
should contribute some 10 MW in total. This is the equivalent to
the consumption of 6,000 homes, and an annual production of
39.420 MW. The generated power will be interconnected to the

Authorities recalled that Punta Arenas, in 2013, was heading for a
major heating and energy emergency. The reason was Argentina’s
decision to cut gas supplies at the moment that local deposits
were running out. Enap drilled successfully and ensured the region
gas for the next twenty years. With this alternative energy project,
