This is the fourth of a five-course sequence that prepares the student to develop the knowledge and problem-solving skills needed to become a practice-ready
professional who can apply concepts to manage the quality and safety of the medication use process and deliver patient-centered care. The course addresses the
operations and services of hospital and community pharmacy. It explores different pharmacy practice models and sites of care.

Entrustable Professional Activities


This course will prepare you to perform the following pharmacist entrusted professional activities:
1. Patient Care Provider
 Collect information to identify a patient’s medication-related problems and health-related needs
2. Practice Manager
 Oversee the pharmacy operations for an assigned work shift
3. Population Health Promoter
 Minimizes adverse drug events and medication errors
 Maximize the appropriate use of medications in a population

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be expected to:

1. Compare and contrast the components of the medication use process for community and hospital pharmacy.
2. Compare and contrast the regulatory agencies, quality standards and metrics for community and hospital pharmacy.
3. Compare and contrast the role and responsibilities of the pharmacist in different practice settings.
4. Describe basic pharmacy operational activities and the evolving clinical roles in pharmacy practice both in community and institutional practice.
5. Apply administrative skills to meet regulatory expectations.

Assessment
Graded:

Class Activities: There will be six team-based class activities with assessments. Each activity assessment is worth 5% of the final course
grade. Students are expected to complete the assessments in class but have until the end of the day to submit them. Guidelines for each
activity/assessment is provided in Canvas. Class attendance is required to complete the activity. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Quizzes: There will be seven individual quizzes in the course. These quizzes are completed online and evaluate the self-study material. Due
date/time are provided in Grading Criteria table. Each quiz is worth 5% of the final course grade. There are no make-ups for quizzes.

Examination: There will be one examination in the course. The exam will cover material from Modules 1-7. The exam will account for 35%
of the final course grade.

Instructional Methods
The course is provided using a combination of synchronous (live face-to-face and Zoom videoconferencing) and asynchronous (Self-study
online) delivery to students at multiple campuses. Faculty from different campuses will be used to deliver the course. The course is
divided into modules which are designed to present different areas of practice. Course content is delivered using a variety of
teaching/learning methods including self-study, lectures, class activities and assignments. On days when students are not attending class,
they will be interacting with material asynchronously through self-study. Students are expected to read and/or view assigned materials
prior to coming to class. Self-study is an expected component of the course.
