2. LISTENING STRATEGIES

a. Were there any new strategies that you used to get the answers for the questions?

- Pre-listening (before you listened): Read the questions, underline keywords, write down synonyms
the of keywords, guess the situations and guess the words may be filled in the blank.

- While-listening (while you were listening): Try to write down what I could here, pay attention,
base on keywords, follow the conversation in order not to miss the answers….

- Post-listening (after you listened): Write down the correct answers, prepare to listen at twice and
check the answers, check grammatical, spelling…

b. Write the synonyms from the recordings of the following words/phrases in the questions for part 2?

Question 10. … was completely different from … = seem to be opposite of

Question 12. …a lot of money = large sums of money

c. Could you get the answers after the first time of listening? If so, what question(s) was it?

I couldn’t answer for the first time of listening almost log. I sometimes need to listen two times or
even three times to find out the most suitable answer.
However, in part 4, it’s easier than other logs. I could write down the answer for the first time of
listening because the woman talks quite clearly and slowly.

d. Were there any questions that you needed more than 2 times of listening to get the answers? What
question(s) was it?

Yes. In part 3, every record has the same situation so it’s hard to find the best answers for each
question. Besides, there are some questions in part 2 that we needed more 2 times of listening to
get the answers.

e. Who could give a lot of correct answers and logical explanations for his/her answers? What do you
think helped him/her to be an effective listener?

Ngoc Anh is the best listener of my group. She just needs to listen for the first time and tell us
about the explanation. I think she is good at listening and she pays attention to the record. She is
good at taking note as well. In addition, she is good at paraphrasing a sentence so she can listen well
even there is no similar word between audio and question.

f. Who were not effective listeners in your group? What were his/her problems? What could be done to
help him/her improve his/her listening skills?

Totally, no one were not effective listeners in our group. We were quite same same. If there
were people who had a wrong answer, we discussed together, listened one more time to find the
correct answer. We think we will practice listening skill more at home, do more test in the internet
and watch films with English to be better in our study.

3. PERSONAL OPINIONS

1. What we found most interesting/useful

- I see the way native speakers show their emotion by using tone of speaking.
- I can improve our take-note ability.
- The most useful thing about this assignment is that I was able to learn different
sentences structures so as to improve my grammar and vocabulary.
- After each log, I could found a lots of new vocabularies and synonym of words in many
different topics. More important, the most useful thing about this assignment was that I
was able to learn new words and different sentences structures in the context so as to
improve my vocabulary and structure.
- I can learned useful knowledge from the practice, had a chance to work in group to
exchange and to improve ourselves with many practical skills.

2. Some problems we have

- Some questions, the speakers talk too fast for us to keep up with the situation and
hard to take note so we need to listen more than once.
- I saw that part 4 was the most challenging part because the clues weren’t given
clearly, and in this part, we had many different answers which is clear evidence for
this challenging part.
- We had to pay attention to many details in the recording in order to find out which
ones were distractions and which ones were answers. It was hard to focus on may
information in the same time and eliminate the wrong answers.

3. Our solutions to some of the problems we have

- We should pay attention to the conversation and record in order not to miss the log’s
detail. Before listening, we should underline the keywords and write down the
synonyms of words. during listening, we try to write as much as we could listen.
- We can listen more times to find out the best answer, focus on keyword that we
underline on questions and options.

- Practice more at home.

4. What we can learn from the practice

- We learn some new words and the way native speakers show their emotion on each
case.
- We can improve how to take note effectively
- We should be more careful when there was too many information to choose from and
pay attention to the recording to eliminate the distractions to get the answer.
