INFORMATION TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN USING SIMPLE PRESENT

1. RULES FOR VERBS IN AFFIRMATIVE STATEMENT.

The chart below will show you the rules at the moment of writing a verb in present simple; it is
important to keep in mind that these rules are used only in affirmative statements and the noun or
subject must be HE – SHE – IT.

My sister washes her clothes on weekend.

Wilmer always says the true.

Julian spends the weekends with my friends.
Other endings +S

Special cases TO HAVE:

He – she – it has

Ana ……has………... (have) two children.

2. For negative statements: there are two auxiliaries for present simple, but the verb is not
modified, it doesn’t matter the noun.

Do not / don’t (I – YOU – WE – THEY)


Does not / doesn’t (HE – SHE – IT)

Example:
I watch TV at night. I don’t watch TV at night.
Laura watches TV at night. Laura doesn’t watch TV at night

Exercise 1.

Complete the statements with the verb in brackets, use simple present rules in affirmative
statements.

1. I (be) am sixteen years old.


2. Tommy (live) lives at 107 Pine Lane.

Make the sentences negative using the correct verbs form the list below
