Assignment 02
Solvron Yarn Manufacturing Process, application, and Properties
Solvron is a synthetic yarn of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) family, and is produced exclusively by
NITIVY CO.,LTD. Solvron, as the name indicates, is easily dissolvable by plain warm or hot
water with no aid of any chemical agents. Because of its ready solubility, Solvron itself is not
usable for ordinary wear apparels. However, taking advantage of its solubility, a number of
significant applications for Solvron have been and are being developed and perfected.
Applications
This yarn is woven as the pile yarn. During the scouring process, the Solvron yarn dissolves
leaving twistless cotton yarn as the pile.
This application offers a softness effect. It is mainly used in natural fiber such as cotton and
wool. The natural fiber is doubled along with Solvron and wound in the reverse direction of the
natural fiber. After dissolving the Solvron, the natural fiber becomes twistless.
4) For Separation:
Solvron is used in applications to separate knitted fabric. It is used mainly for socks, fishing nets,
and narrow knitted tape separation.
5) For Reinforcement:
By covering or twisting ultra-fine yarn/fluffy yarn with Solvron yarn breakage can be prevented
and weaving/knitting is made easier. Solvron acts as a yarn reinforcement.
6) For Shrinkage
Utilizing Shrinkage is mainly used with SHC type for Dampening Cover with offset printing
machines.
Colored Solvron yarn (Red, Blue) is used for marking purposes in all knitted manufacturing
processes. It is mainly used in the manufacture of pantyhose.
Solvron can be used as a warp and weft support to create open work designs. The spaces left by
the dissolved Solvron will create the desired effect.
・By using circular-double machines it is possible to create a very interesting pile-knit fabric
without using a special machine.
Recommended for Sport-Jerseys and Ladies Garments.
・Knitting Solvron to hold other yarns. Solvron can be used as a holding yarn that will leave
gaps and holes as needed in any designs.
To ensure quick and even dissolving, first heat water to the desired temperature, and then
submerge Solvron directly into the hot water.
If Solvron is placed first in cold water, under tension-free status, and water temperature is raised
gradually, Solvron will start shrinking without braking or disintegration. Only when the water
reaches the dissolving temperature will the Solvron begin to dissolve away.
The suitable bath-ratio is 1:30 weightwise. Bath-ratio should be sufficient to facilitate prompt
dissolution and also to allow free movement of articles.
If too many articles are put in a limited volume of water dissolving will become difficult.
Stirring of water is essential to promote rapid dissolution.
Continual over-flowing of water is also ideal.
Dissolving time greatly depends upon how much and in what status Solvron is used, and
therefore it is rather difficult to generalize the dissolving time.
If Solvron is placed in direct contact with hot water, without being covered or wrapped by some
insoluble materials, dissolving is easy and instant.
If, however, Solvron is covered or wrapped by insoluble material to the extent of preventing the
free flow of hot water, dissolving takes much longer.
Generally speaking, 10-20 minutes of initial boiling, followed by secondary boiling** in fresh
hot water will ensure dissolving under normal conditions.
Among many applications, the cloth woven of SOLVRON has already established a predominant
position as an ideal Base-Cloth for guipure embroidery, replacing the hitherto used silk cloth or
some man-made fibers which are dissolvable only by the chemical agents. The following is the
features of SOLVRON ground cloth in this particular field:
2. Treatments by caustic soda solution or by some other chemicals, which are necessary for
dissolving silk clothed. Frequency cause discoloration or weakening of the
embroidery.SOLVRON cloth, because of its dissolving by plain hot water alone, positively
safeguards the embroidery from these risks.
3. SOLVRON cloth allows exquisite stitching works and once fixed on the Schiffli machine-
frame upholds an equal tension and tightness throughout the stitching process.
1st Stage
Before starting the work of dissolving, it is recommended to wash away Tinting agents, Kiton
dyestuff in water, which are used for the purpose of distinguishing SOLVRON from other
fabrics and of easily finding out of the defect of embroidery-stitching.
2nd Stage
Heat up the water at first up to the needed temperature, and then, dip the embroidered base cloth
itself sufficiently, so that the base cloth may dissolve rapidly.
3rd Stage
Change the water and then also stir the water and cloth. Continual over flowing of hot water is
desired.
1. 1. Bath ratio: The hot water should be sufficient enough to facilitate prompt dissolution
and also to allow free moving of the cloth, and even to prevent saturation. Effective bath-
ratio of loomstate and water is over 1:30 weightwise.
2. 2. Dissolving Time: It differs upon the type of SOLVRON used, dissolving device,
stitching number of embroidering.
