7. Evaluation Methods
7.1 Common evaluation conditions
7.1.1 Standard atmospheric condition for testing Unless otherwise specified, the
standard temperature shall be 20 C, class 15 (20  15 C) and the standard humidity shall be
65 %, class 20 (65  20 %) as specified in JIS Z 8703.
7.2 Appearance
7.2.1 Appearance Visually check the appearance for deformation or flaws.
7.2.2 External dimensions
(1) Thickness Cut a test sample of approximately 500 mm out per roll of sample, and
fold it in two with the adhesive face inside. Measure the thickness on three points at
almost equal intervals in the longitudinal direction with a Quality 1 dial gauge with 0.01
divisions specified in JIS B 7503 having a pressure probe of 5 mm in diameter or other
measuring instrument having the accuracy equivalent or higher. The measuring pressure
shall be approximately 0.78 N. The thickness shall be calculated by dividing the average
value into halves.
(2) Width Cut a test sample of approximately 300 mm out per roll of sample, measure
the width on three points at almost equal intervals in the longitudinal direction with a
caliper specified in JIS B 7507. The width shall be determined by calculating the
average value.

7.3 Strength
7.3.1 Adhesion
(1) For a test panel, the steel plate of 1.5 to 2.0 mm in thickness of SUS 304 (27CP) or
SUS 302 (40 CP) specified in JIS G 4305 shall be cut into the size of 50 mm in width and
125 mm in length. Polish that surface uniformly with No. 280 waterproof abrasive paper
specified in JIS R 6253.
(2) After washing the surface of test panel in the appropriate solvent such as hexane, dry it
sufficiently and wipe it with a well-dried and clean cloth. Then, with the adhesive face
of the test sample down, align the ends of test sample with the test panel in the
longitudinal direction. Put the test sample in the center of the test panel and the rest of
125 mm shall not adhere to the panel. On the adhesive face of the rest portion, talc shall
be powdered or paper shall be put on.
(3) Next, press the test sample on the test panel with a roller by a double rolling at a speed of
50 mm/s.
(4) After 20 min or more, fold back the rest portion of the test sample at 180  and peel the
test sample from the test panel by approximately 25 mm. Then, install the test sample on
a constant speed tensile tester correctly, and peel the test sample continuously at a speed
of 300  30 mm/min. The adhesion shall be measured four times every peeling of
approximately 20 mm. The test shall be performed on three test samples to get the
average value of twelve values measured from the three test samples.
(5) When the test is performed using any tape other than the test sample of 18 mm in width,
the conversion evaluation standard value shall be as follows:
When a tape width is a mm, the conversion evaluation standard value of adhesion shall be
0.092a N or more.
7.3.2 Tensile strength
(1) The tensile strength shall be tested by the following procedure:
Cut out three test samples of 18 mm in width and 150 mm in length, pull them
respectively at a speed of approximately 300 mm/min at hold intervals of 100 mm using
Schopper type pendulum tensile tester (The length of test sample is within 15 to 85 % of
the vessel.) or equivalent. Measure the load when the test sample is broken to get the
average value of three test pieces.
(2) When the test is performed using any tape other than the test sample of 18 mm in width,
the conversion evaluation standard value shall be as follows:
When a tape width is a mm and a tape thickness is b mm, the conversion evaluation
standard value of tensile strength shall be 2.42ab N or more.
