Lesson Plan in Science for Kindergarten

Learning Competency
1. Name common animals (PNEKA-Ie-1)
2. Observe, describe, and examine common animals using their senses (PNEKA-IIIh-2)
3. Group animals according to certain characteristics (how they look/ body, coverings/parts,
how they move, sounds they make, what they eat, where they live) (PNEKA-00-3)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student must be able to…
a. Identify what are the common animals found in their immediate surrounding;
b. know and understand the seven levels of classification;
c. classify animals according to their groups;
d. evaluate and compare the classification of animals.
e. distinguish information shown in pictures and information provided in text;
f. devise a classification system for the objects in their homes;
g. create a new species and classify it according to the principles of classification;
h. participate to the task given to them;
i. display good collaboration with the other members of the group for the given
activity; and
j. placing the animal in each group through their kingdoms.

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic: Kingdom Animalia
b. Lesson/s: Classifying Animals
c. Materials: paper, pen or pencil, crayons, colored pencils and/or fine-tip markers.

III. Lesson Proper


a. Review
 The students know what the different types of Animal Kingdom are (e.g.
amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and insects)
b. Motivation
 A Story about “A Defeat of an Animal Kingdom”
c. Activities
 The class will be divided into four groups for the cast of the story
 The students will listen to the story of the teacher.
 Based on the groups they are assigned to, they are going to make a
sound on the animals they are grouped into (ex. Lion:Roar)
d. Abstraction:
 The students will answer the following questions:
1. Where does King Leopard lives?
2. Where does Lion lives?
3. Where does Fox lives?
4. Do you think it is good to fight with each other?
