Alright this time class I want to show you a

musical piece entitled ‘Row, row, row, your
boat”. I know every one of you are familiar in Yes, Ma’am!
this song but I want you to listen first from the (Student sing “Row, row, row, your boat”)
maestro members and then afterward we are all
going to sing “Row, row, row, your boat” and
class remember, I want you to focus and observe
how many times the song is being repeated. Get it
class?

Very Good, children! So, let's now proceed to our

topic.

 Discussion

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

In music class, a repeat mark is a sign that

indicates a section should be repeated. If the piece
has one repeat sign alone, then that means to
repeat from the beginning, and then continue on
(or stop, if the sign appears at the end of the
piece).

Repeat signs
around the second note

A sign that a movement or part of a movement is

to be twice performed. That which is to be
repeated is generally included within the sign of
two or four dots in the spaces. When the performer
does not, on repeating, go so far as the last dot-
sign, but finishes at a previous cadence, it is usual
to write over the repeat, Da Capo, placing a pause
and fine over the chord at which the performer is

to stop. If the signs of the repeat do not coincide
with a well-defined portion of a movement the
sign is sometimes added.

Repeat marks for forms are the following:

1. Da Capo (D.C.) repeat from beginning of

the composition

2. Dal Segno( D.S ) indicates that the musical

piece is to be repeated from the sign .

3. Al Fine- up to the end or with the word

“Fine”

4. D.C. Al Fine- means that the section is to

be repeated from the beginning up to the word
“Fine” or up to the end.

When a repeat calls for a different ending,

numbered brackets above the bars indicate which
to play the first time which to play the second time
and so on if necessary. These are called "first-time
bars" and "second-time bars", or "first and second
endings". They are also known as "volta brackets"
and although there are normally 2 volta brackets,
there is no limit to how many there can be.

Repeat sign with first and second endings. The

notes are played as: A, B, C, B, D
