Measure of Shape (Skewness and Kurtosis)

Measure of Central Tendency

Activity 4
Instructions:

Create a new SPSS file with a filename:<student profile>. Add the following variables with
200 data values each variable:

a. <Sex> - Sex of Students (1 = Male, 2 = Female)

b. <DailyAllowance> - Daily Allowance of Students (Input raw values from 1 to 100)
c. <TimeStudy> - Time spent for studying each day in minutes (input raw values that are
reasonable)
d. <TimePlayMobileGames> - Time spent for playing mobile games each day in minutes
(input raw values that are reasonable)
e. <Distance> - Distance Travelled from home to school in kilometers (input raw values
that are reasonable)

Answer the following:

1. Considering the daily allowance of students, what is the mean, median, and mode?
Discuss the result of your data set.
2. Describe the mean, median and modal time spent in studying each day by the male
and female students? Which group has a longer studying time?
3. Discuss the average time used by the male student in playing mobile games.
4. If the distance travelled from home to school is increased by 1 kilometer each
student, what is its effect on the mean? What will be the effect to the mean if the
values were multiplied by 3?
Activity 5

Instructions:
Create a new SPSS file with <Teaching Experience> as the file name. Import the data set
with file name <teaching experience.xlsx>. The data set contains two variables namely:
<School> and <YearsofTeachingExperience>
In the variable view, go to “values” and define the coding for <School>; 1 = School A, 2 =
School B. Generate the descriptive statistics of the data and complete the table below:

Descriptive Statistics School A School B

Mean
Median
Mode

Basing from the descriptive statistics of the data set, what statistical conclusion can be
reached? What can you conclude about the years of teaching experience of the teachers in
School A and School B?
