ACTIVITY #3: Philippine Boat and Seamanship


1. Identify any two (3) examples of archaeological records in the reading. In three (3)
sentences, explain why these are examples of such archaeological records?
Examples of archaeological records found were the planks excavated from an
ancient local boat in Sitio Ambangan and the unpublished work of Francisco Alcina,
Historia de los Islas e Indios de las Bisayas. They are considered to be a useful proof
and documentation to describe how Philippine boats are crafted, as well as, how it
took a great part of our livelihood, culture and, story back then. Not only that, we
can trace our early roots in which can further help us understand to what lead to
developments of boats, even seamanship, in our country.

ACTIVITY #4: Faces of Maitum


1. Identify any three (3) examples of archaeological records in the reading. In three (3)
sentences, explain why these are examples of such archaeological records?
They were many burial jars and shards discovered and preserved, but to be
specific, firstly the Sanga-Sanga shards excavated from Balobok Rockshelther,
then the Ship of the Dead found in Palawan, and lastly, the cave profile and
maps used for the Ayub cave excavation. As mentioned in the readings, no exact
explanation can narrate the origins of pottery however, with every fragment
from different excavations we can somehow uncover our past practices and
cultures. These in turn gives us hints as to what its importance in our lives during
our prehistory and how it is part of our identity.
