IR & K-12 Action plan and ambitions.

- By: Vishal Venkatarangan (19BCM0011)

Vision: 1. To make AIChE-VIT prominent and sound in the global sphere.

2. To raise AIChE-VIT ‘s status as a representative for the entire Indian sub-continent region.

3. To ensure AIChE-VIT’s events have good global participation always.

4. To ensure AIChE-VIT enjoys the advantage in information sharing with AIChEs around the
globe with more emphasis on research and placement related opportunities.

5. To expand the no. of people from AIChE-VIT in ESC(Executive Sub-Committee)

6. To expand the reach of our K-12 program, especially to orphanages.

Action Plans for IR:

1. To achieve the first vision we need to build better contacts all around the world. To ensure
this, I would first start mapping out the AIChEs around the world and classify them into three
categories: a. New and developing chapters who need support and we can offer them.
b. Established chapters with whom we have don’t have that much of a connection.
c. Chapters who have helped us in the past.

After this classification, we would start formulating plans on how to build bridges with these
3 types of chapters.
For a. we would need to constantly lookout for new chapters and once we find such a
chapter we reach out to them. If they are friendly and ready to connect(which they would
have to since they are new) we help them out as much as we can. From logistics to
operations to design. (Help as in not directly doing the job for them but guiding them on
how to get the job done). After this, they kind of become a mini sister chapter to us and we
can say for sure that we would maintain good relations with them.

For b. We try to incentivize them to connect with us more by doing publicity for them and by
supporting them during international meetings. We would also offer them participants from
our side for their events and help them build a stronger global presence. We would also be
collaborating with them for events and support them by offering them judges or make
problem statements for them.
Benefits: These chapters have well-established professors and other intellectual resources
which we can utilize. However for them to share their resources, we would need a better
connection with these chapters.
This plan would first be implemented for our sister chapter UC Berkely. This is because as
their sister chapter we need to be more in touch with them and also as they are a well-
established institution, having an intellectual sharing opportunity would be highly beneficial
for us.
For c. We would make sure these chapters always have our support and help. These
chapters would also be on our priority list when we have to choose between various
chapters.

2. To achieve the second vision here are some things which I propose:
A. Strengthening our core members and preparing them for competitions so that they can
beat other regional AIChEs in regional competitions and make sure AIChE-VIT is seen as a
chapter that is strong technically.
B. Organizing webinars with these regional chapters on the latest achievements and
happenings in the local region.
C. Enhanced sharing of intelligence information between the regional AIChEs.
D. Organizing a yearly meetup of all the AIChEs in the sub-continent (either online or
offline. If offline preferably in Vellore) where the boards meet and many affairs and
issues regarding the region are discussed. Fun activities and games would also be
hosted.

3. After implementing all the things mentioned above, we can say with some confidence that
there would be decent participation for our events especially Chem-a-thon. However, for
our main flagship events, the IR team would collaborate with the Publicity team to come up
with marketing campaigns for each specific region of AIChE global.

4. After implementing the above-mentioned steps and building the basic connection with the
chapters, we can now start to have discussions and joint webinars with these colleges. The
webinars would be about the research which is going on in their colleges, the work they
have done in their chem-e-cars, placements and internships which have been offered in their
colleges, and general discussions about the recent developments in the field of chemical
engineering. This would act as a stage to showcase our technical prowess as a chapter.
These discussions can be labeled as a DSW event as well and can get a lot of attention to our
chapter as international chapters are participating in it.

5. For the fifth vision to be achieved, we need to first identify all the positions which are
coming up for grabs. After that, all the core and sr. core members have to be split up into
groups for each position and given training on how to fill up for that position. This training
would be comprehensive and would be given by people who have been successful in getting
selected into the ESC before. Getting as many members as possible in ESC would be highly
beneficial for the chapter and give it good outreach.

Please note that before implementing the above measure, the core members would be
thoroughly briefed and trained. Board members would be actively taking part with the core
for the initial tasks but after that full responsibility would be left to the core gradually.

Action Plans for K-12:

6. For achieving the sixth vision the following would be done:

a. Along with schools, orphanages should also be targeted for our teaching and outreach
campaigns. This adds a social sentiment to our program and highlights it apart from
other chapters’ K-12 programs. This could be done in collab with any NGOs of VIT as
well. Doing it with an NGO could give us more contacts and opportunities to reach
orphanages.
b. More sponsors would be brought in to fund our K-12 program and with these additional
funds, we can try to span our K-12 program all over TN. This would not only increase our
reputation in VIT but also in the state and our chapter would be known as the chapter
which has propagated Chemical Engineering. Sponsors would also be incentivized to
sponsor our program as this gives them a good reputation as a company that is invested
in the local social development and welfare.
