Questions
1. What is the research?
2. Write two factors why research is important to student?
3. Write two objectives of research?
4. Write three characteristics of research?
5. Write five criteria of a good research?
6. Describe the difference between a quantitative research and qualitative research?
7. Write two research types and write a short description about each?

Answer
1.
 Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge and /or the use of existing knowledge
in a new creative way so and to generate new concepts, methodologies and understanding.

2.
 Enhances knowledge
 To have a proper understanding of the subject
 To learn about the methods and issues

3.
 The purpose of research is to discover answers through the application of scientific
procedures.
 The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and which has not been
discovered as yet.

4.
 Research is directed towards the solution of a problem.
 Research requires courage.
 Research is carefully recorded and reported.
5.
 a good research is that the purpose of the research is clearly defined.
 The research method should be defined in a clear manner with sufficient detail.
 To remember is that any limitation and assumption made by the researcher during the
course of the study should be clearly highlights in the research.
 To be considered by the researcher is that there should be sufficient data to investigate the
research topic.
 The research design should be planned in a way that the results generated are as objective
as possible.

6.
 quantitative research
 Focus on testing theories and hypotheses
 Analyzed through math and statistical analysis
 Mainly expressed in numbers, graphs and table
 Requires many respondents
 Closed questions

 Qualitative research
 Focuses on exploring ideas and formulating a theory or hypothesis
 Analyzed by summering, categorizing and interpreting
 Mainly expressed in words
 Requires few respondents
 Open –ended question

7.
 Qualitative research
Qualitative research is a process that is about inquiry. It helps create in-depth
understanding of problems or issues in their natural settings. This is a non-statistical method.
Qualitative research is heavily dependent on the experience of the researchers and the
questions used to probe the sample. The sample size is usually restricted to 6-10 people. open
ended question is asked in a manner that encourages answers that lead to another question or
group of questions. The purpose of asking open-ended questions is to gather as much
information as possible from the sample.

The following are the methods used for qualitative research:

1. One-to-one interview
2. Focus groups
3. Ethnographic research
4. Content/Text Analysis
5. Case study research
 Qualitative research

Qualitative research is a structured way of collecting data and analyzing it to draw

conclusions. Unlike qualitative methods, this method uses a computational and statistical
process to collect and analyze data. Quantitative data is all about numbers. Quantitative
research involves a larger population — more people means more data. With more data to
analyze, you can obtain more accurate results. This method uses close ended
question because the researchers are typically looking to gather statistical data.

Online surveying, questionnaires, and polls are preferable data collection tools used in
quantitative research. There are various methods of deploying surveys or questionnaires.
Online surveys allow survey creators to reach large amounts of people or smaller focus
groups for different types of research that meet different goals. Survey respondents can
receive surveys on mobile phones, in emails, or can simply use the internet to access
surveys.
