Activity # 1

Solve the following problems.

1. The net core area of a single-phase transformer is 60 cm2. The primary
having 400 turns is connected to a 550-volt supply. What is the flux
density in the core. The supply frequency is 60 Hz.

2. A transformer's primary resistance is 0.10 ohm, and its leakage

reactance is 0.80 ohm. The primary current is 50 A with a lagging
power factor of 0.60 while the applied voltage is 1000 volts. What is
induced emf in the primary?

3. The primary impedance of a 230/460 volt transformer is (0.20 + j0.50)

ohm, and the secondary winding impedance is (0.75 + j1.8) ohms.
Determine the secondary or load voltage if the primary voltage is 230
volts and the load current is 10 A with a 0.80 lagging power factor.

4. A 15 kVA, 2300/230-V, single-phase transformer has a primary

impedance of (2 + j10) ohms and a secondary impedance of (0.02 +
j0.09) ohm. If the secondary terminal voltage is to be maintained at
230 volts at 0.80 lagging power factor full load secondary current,
what should be the primary voltage?
