1. A 2400/400V single phase transformer takes no load current of 0.

the core loss is 400 watts. Determine the values of the magnetizing and the core
loss components of the no load current.
2. A single phase, 50HZ transformer has 25 primary turns and 300 secondary turns.
The cross section area of the core is 300 𝑐𝑚2 . When the primary winding is
connected to a 250 volts supply, determine:
i. Maximum value of flux density in the core
ii. Voltage induced in the secondary winding.

loss at full load is 1600W and the iron loss is 1400W.
4. Draw the equivalent circuit for a 300/400V single phase transformer on which the
following test results were obtained. Input to the high voltage winding when the
low voltage winding is open circuited: 300V, 0.5A, 500W. input to the low voltage
winding when high voltage winding is short circuited: 11V, 100A, 500W. Insert the
appropriate values of resistances and reactance.
5. A 400/200V single phase transformer is supplying a load of 50 A at power factor of
0.866 lagging. The no load current is 2A at 0.208 pf lagging. Calculate the primary
current and primary power factor.
6. The load voltage ratio in a single phase, 50 hertz transformer is 1200/440. Find the
number of turns in each winding if the maximum flux is to be 0.075 Wb.
7. A 200KVA rated transformer has full load coper loss of 1.5KW and iron loss of 1KW.
i. Determine transformer efficiency at full load and 1 pf.
ii. Determine efficiency at half load and 0.85 pf.
iii. Determine maximum efficiency at 0.8 pf.
8. A 400KVA transformer has primary winding resistance of o.5 Ohm and secondary
winding resistance of 0.001 Ohm. The iron loss is 2.5 KW and the primary and
secondary voltages are 5KV and 320V respectively. If the power factor of the load
is 0.85, determine efficiency of transformer on:
i. Full load
ii. Half load
iii. Maximum efficiency and at what load.
9. Two single phase transformers A and B are operating in parallel and supplying a
common load of 1000KVA at 0.8 pf. Transformer A is rated 600 KVA and 𝑍𝐴 = (3 +
𝑗5) Ohms. Transformer B is rated 600 KVA and 𝑍𝐵 = (2 + 𝑗4) Ohms. Determine
the loading of each transformer.
10. Two single phase transformers A and B are operating in parallel and supplying a
common load of 1000KVA at 0.8 pf. Transformer A is rated 750 KVA and 𝑍𝐴 = (3 +
𝑗5) Ohms. Transformer B is rated 500KVA and 𝑍𝐵 = (2 + 𝑗4) Ohms. Determine the
loading of each transformer.
