Module 1 Assignment
Activities

1. Choose from the seven categories of computer elements affecting interaction. Collect
images of devices belonging to your chosen element from online resources and include
a brief description and mention your sources. Also add the emerging designs or
innovations for this computer system element.

KEYBOARD

A computer keyboard is a typewriter-style device which uses an arrangement of

buttons or keys to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches.

MOUSE
A computer mouse (plural mice or mouses) is a hand-held pointing device that detects
two-dimensional motion relative to a surface. This motion is typically translated into the motion
of a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control of the graphical user interface of a
computer.

JOYSTICK

Joystick is also a pointing device, which is used to move the cursor position on a monitor
screen. It is a stick having a spherical ball at its both lower and upper ends. The lower spherical
ball moves in a socket. The joystick can be moved in all four directions.

LIGHT PEN
Light pen is a pointing device similar to a pen. It is used to select a displayed menu item or
draw pictures on the monitor screen. It consists of a photocell and an optical system placed in a
small tube. When the tip of a light pen is moved over the monitor screen and the pen button is
pressed, its photocell sensing element detects the screen location and sends the corresponding
Signal to the cpu.

TRACK BALL

Track ball is an input device that is mostly used in notebook or laptop computer, instead of a
mouse. This is a ball which is half inserted and by moving fingers on the ball, the pointer can be
moved. Since the whole device is not moved, a track ball requires less space than a mouse. A
track ball comes in various shapes like a ball, a button, or a square.

SCANNER
Scanner is an input device, which works more like a photocopy machine. It is used when some
information is available on paper and it is to be transferred to the hard disk of the computer for
further manipulation. Scanner captures images from the source which are then converted into a
digital form that can be stored on the disk. These images can be edited before they are printed.

MICROPHONE

Microphone is an input device to input sound that is then stored in a digital form. The
microphone is used for various applications such as adding sound to a multimedia presentation
or for mixing music.

a. Which device works for you the best?

The best device for me is the Mouse. Mouse is very useful to the user because it
is also compatible in laptop users. If you are using pc and the mouse is not
functioning you cant use your pc anymore because you don’t have a pointing
device, unless you buy a new Mouse. If the keyboard is broke you can still use
your Mouse to run a program in your pc.

b. What features do you think should be added?

I think, there was be more cooler if they can add a flashlight at the bottom of the mouse.
“MOUSE WITH FLASHLIGHT”. The flashlight will compatible only for wireless mouse. If
there is a power interruption in your place you can use your mouse as a flashlight for the capacity
of 3 hours.
2. List down the interactive systems you use in a day-to-day life. Identify the devices you use
and keep a log of all the times you use. For each encounter, record the following.

LAPTOP

-8:00 am to 11:30 am

CELLPHONE

-1:00 pm to 10:00 pm

SPEAKER

-8:00 am to 5:00 pm

a. The goal/task you were accomplishing.

- Activities in Online Class

- Communication with my Friends and Classmates
- Assignment and Reviewers
- Joining in Google meetings

b. Any problem you had with the interactive system

- poor internet connection
- Sometimes I experience lag cause of too much running application
- Not clear audio speaker
- too much time to charge my phone
c. Any improvement or additional feature you can suggest.
- 5G Connection of My Phone
- Bigger Ram and Rom and Storage
- More clear Stereo
- Fast adaptor of Charger for fastest charging

3. HCI is any technology which allows a person to interact with a computer. Search for a
published research article tackling an HCI technology. Cite your source (i.e. title, authors ,
year published, name of journal, number of cited references)

Human–computer interaction (HCI) as a topic is basically simple. There is a person of

some sort who wants to do some task like write an essay or pilot an airplane. What
makes the activity HCI is inserting a mediating computer. In principle, our person could
have done the task without the computer. She could have used a quill pen and ink, for
example, or flown an airplane that uses hydraulic tubes to work the controls. These are
not quite HCI. They do use intermediary tools or machines, and the process of their
design and the facts of their use bear resemblance to those of HCI. In fact, they fit into
HCI’s uncle discipline of human factors. But it is the computer, and the process of
contingent interaction the computer renders possible, that makes HCI distinctive.

HCI (human-computer interaction) is the study of how people interact with computers
and to what extent computers are or are not developed for successful interaction with
human beings.

The Goals of HCI

The goals of HCI are to produce usable and safe systems, as well as functional systems.
In order o produce computer systems with good usability, developers must attempt to:
● understand the factors that determine how people use technology
● develop tools and techniques to enable building suitable systems
● achieve efficient, effective, and safe interaction
● put people first

Underlying the whole theme of HCI is the belief that people using a computer system
should come first. Their needs, capabilities and preferences for conducting various tasks
should direct developers in the way that they design systems. People should not have to
change the way that they use a system in order to fit in with it. Instead, the system
should be designed to match their requirements. Many everyday systems and products
seem to be designed with little regard to usability. This leads to frustration, wasted time
and errors. This list contains examples of interactive products mobile phone, computer,
personal organizer, remote control, soft drink machine, coffee machine, ATM, ticket
machine, library information system, the web, photocopier, watch, printer, stereo,
calculator, videogame etc¦.

a. What is the technology about? What are its features?

- the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in

industry. advances in computer technology, machinery and equipment developed
from the application of scientific knowledge the branch of knowledge dealing with
engineering or applied sciences.
b. How was its effectiveness and efficiency measured?

While technology can positively impact learning outcomes, it may be even

more effective for some students if it's instructor-led and integrated into a
well-designed curriculum. technology is rapidly changing the educational
environment and challenging students to adapt accordingly. Those
different kind of gadgets make our live more easily because of high class
and very useful technology.

c. What were the indicated future plans or directions for said device?

- If those technology like Laptop, Personal Computer, Television,

Mobile Phones, Home appliances that we use to day improved in
the future. Life must be more easier compare nowadays. More High
end and more functional gadgets produce by engineers and
scientist in the future that we use in our daily life.
