1.0 Introduction:
The business world faces factors that forces it to respond to it accordingly to survive in the market. This
process derives the ever-changing nature of the business world. There are a number of factors that
contribute in change and these factors are referred to as key drivers for change. Companies need to
study these drivers in order to develop strategies and contingency plans in order to make the
appropriate timely decisions.

The given Honda case illustrates the lineage between government failure to champion energy efficient
electric cars and Honda closing down its Swindon car plant. In addition to the Swindon closure, it
discusses the UK’s current state in reducing carbon emission and its phase-out date for conventionally
fueled vehicles in comparison to that of other nations’. This report aims to identify the key drivers for
Honda’s decision to close the Swindon car plant and examine the nature of change in environment for
the company.

1.1 Objectives of the Study:


Honda is one of the most prestigious companies in the car industry. Their decision to end operations in
their Swindon car plant will impact the employees, the company and the economy of the UK. The main
objectives of the report are given below:

a. Understanding the concepts of key drivers for change. Using strategic tools to conduct
identification, examination and discussions on the drivers.
b. Evaluating the overall attributes and nature of the change.
c. Finding the appropriate response for change.
d. Understanding the relationship between drivers for change and strategic decision making.
e. Providing recommendations based on findings of the discussion.

1.2 Scope of the Study:


This report attempts to establish a correlation between the key drivers of change in this case and
Honda’s response to the change. To bolster the materials, this report will provide pertinent data
regarding the drivers for change. The report will view the case from different perspectives in order to
formulate recommendations for the company.

1.3 Methodology:
The following procedures were followed to prepare the report:

a. The given module materials were studied to understand the case.


b. Published journals and articles were referenced to further the understanding of the theoretical
and practical aspects of subject matter.
c. Gathered information from secondary sources of information.

With the accumulated information and knowledge, a primary format of report was made which was
modified a number of times in order to better the quality of the report. The final form of the report is
being submitted to you.
1.4 Limitations of the Study:
Despite best efforts to make the report as accurate as possible, certain limitations still persisted. A few
of the pronounced restrictions are noted below:

a. Since it is an academic project, it had time constraints unlike pure research reports, which has
led to some compromise in quality.
b. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interviews and direct sourcing and verification of information
with related personnel could not be conducted.
c. The report is based on information gathered from secondary sources.

2.0 Company Overview of Honda:


Honda Motor Company is one of the most prominent manufacturer of automobiles and motorbikes in
the world. It is a Japanese public MNC conglomerate that operates globally. Honda has been the world’s
largest manufacturer of motorcycle since 1959 [ CITATION Gra03 \l 1033 ]. It currently holds 8th position
in being the largest automobile manufacturer.

Despite being one of the most successful car manufacturing companies, Honda started developing their
electric cars in 1988, being the last company to on their electric cars in Japan .
