The Gathering
The Greeting
The Bishop of Coventry greets the congregation [and invites everyone to move
fairly briskly into the New Cathedral after the Litany]
2
The greed which exploits the work of human hands
and lays waste the earth,
All Father, forgive.
Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others,
All Father, forgive.
Our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned,
the homeless, the refugee,
All Father, forgive.
The lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and
children,
All Father, forgive.
The pride which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God,
All Father, forgive.
All Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Following the Cross of Nails and led by the Blue Coat School Choir, the congregation
moves to the tables set out at the West End of the New Cathedral while singing
The Collect
The Bishop introduces a time of silent prayer, after which he says
Almighty Father,
whose will is to restore all things
in your beloved Son, the King of all:
govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,
and bring the families of the nations,
divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,
to be subject to his just and gentle rule;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All Amen.

May the Lord do thus and so to me,
and more as well,
if even death parts me from you!’

31
Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he
saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32So likewise a Levite,
when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other
side. 33But a Samaritan while travelling came near him; and when
he saw him, he was moved with pity. 34He went to him and
bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then
he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took
care of him. 35The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to
the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him; and when I come
back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.” 36Which of these
three, do you think, was a neighbour to the man who fell into the
hands of the robbers?’ 37He said, ‘The one who showed him
mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’
Luke 10.25-37

because we all share in one bread.
Invitation to Communion
The Bishop says
Jesus is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper.
All Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word, and I shall be healed.
Giving of Communion

You spoke to us - long, long ago -
gave us the written word;
we read it still, needing its truth,
through it God’s voice is heard.
Any consecrated bread and wine which is not required for purposes of Communion is
brought back to the Altar to be consumed after the service
17
All Almighty God,
we thank you for feeding us
with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.
Through him we offer you our souls and bodies
to be a living sacrifice.
Send us out
in the power of your Spirit
to live and work
to your praise and glory.
Amen.
Hymn
All-creating heavenly giver,
bringing light and life to birth,
all-sustaining heavenly Father
of the families of earth:
We, your children, lift our voices
singing gladly of your love:
never-ending are the praises
rising to your throne above.
Ever-living Lord and Saviour,
breaking chains of sin and shame;
ever-loving intercessor
prayers are answered in your name:
We, your servants, liberated
at a fearsome ransom-price,
in your kingdom are united
by that mighty sacrifice.
18
Life-conceiving wind of heaven,
breathing gifts upon us all;
life-enhancing Spirit, given
to enrich us, great and small:
We, whose talents widely differ,
now restore to you your own,
and in true thanksgiving offer
all we are before the throne.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
blessing all within your hand:
full the cup that we inherit,
firm the ground on which we stand:
We, your people, undeserving
of the grace you freely give,
now and ever, in thanksgiving
to your praise and glory live.
