DESIGN BASIS REPORT
ON
HVAC System
13th APRIL‘2021
1.0 Introduction
Treated fresh air systems are being envisaged in the design, which will have
independent Outdoor Unit. System has been designed to facilitate positive pressure
air-conditioning, in order to discourage infiltration of untreated outdoor air.
a. Energy Efficiency
The minimum and maximum cooling demand between February & November
would be in the region of 50% and 95%.Peak heating demand shall arise during
January. It would therefore be appropriate to establish selection of a particular
system to ensure that the overall power requirement goes hand in hand with
the fluctuating demand to ultimately avoid loss of precious electrical energy.
Awareness is growing rapidly towards need for improving indoor air quality
(IAQ) due to environmental pollution reaching alarming proportions in and
around metropolitan cities. There are occasions when occupants complain of
exhaustion & fatigue which could be attributed to poor indoor air quality. We
therefore, recommend treated fresh air replenishment in all spaces in line with
ASHRAE 62.1-2013 recommendations.

Assumption/ Notes:
The heat loads mentioned above have been worked out based on the following assumptions:
1. Over deck thermal insulation shall be provided for exposed roof using at least
50mm thick extruded polystyrene insulation material.(By other agencies)
2. All structural glazing and windows shall be provided with double glass – U Value =
0.56 BTUs/hr/Sft. Deg F & Solar Factor = 0.56 (with thick curtains/internal venetian
blinds).
3. All peripheral walls shall be 230mm thick brick work having U Value = 0.32
BTUs/hr/Sft. Deg F.

System Designing
The proposed VRF system shall serve dual purpose of heating as well as cooling
During winter, the VRF system shall provide heating by default.
The constant speed/ inverter compressor/s and the condenser shall be part of the
outdoor unit/s (ODU). The electronic expansion valve and the evaporator would be
part of the indoor units (IDU). Liquid refrigerant from ODU to IDU, and gas from IDU
to ODU shall travel through insulated copper refrigerant pipes, thereby completing
the Reverse Carnot Cycle.
Anti-corrosion treatment shall be carried out for all ODUs, preferably from factory.
All refrigerant piping shall be insulated, and then wrapped in glass cloth, followed by
application of specific chemicals towards UV protection, mechanical strengthening,
and anti-corrosion. Refrigerant pipes shall run in shafts/ cutouts and above false
ceiling spaces.
The IDUs (Double skin AHUs being preferred) have been selected for specific zones
as elaborated above. Centralized Treated fresh air unit & associated Outdoor unit
shall be placed on terrace.
Condensate drain piping associated with IDUs/TFAs shall be carefully carried out to
ensure leak proof disposal of condensate water.
3.0 Exclusions:
The following activities do not fall in the scope of HVAC package. The associated work
shall be carried out by other agencies, under direct supervision of the HVAC
contractor:
ii. Any kind of false ceiling work required for enclosing the ductwork and
piping.

ii. Single Phase power point shall be provided near each VRF finished
indoor units (Hi-wall & cassette) of VRF system as indicated in design
drawings.
iii. Single Phase power point to be provided near each inline fan for exhaust
as shown in relevant design drawing.
The electrical power supply required shall be 415+10% volts, 50 Hz, 3 phase and 220+
10% volts, 1 phase AC and the total electrical power requirement for HVAC system
shall be as under:
