The Ahadith of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)

1. Hadith # 11

Hadith # 11

a)
1. This hadith highlights the virtues of bringing up the orphans.
2. Generally, orphans are those who have lost their parents especially the bread earner that is
usually the father.
3. In the scope of this hadith, they are those children who lack supervision, care, and guidance
due to the death of their parents or being separated from them. This makes them dependent
to fulfill their needs.
4. As they are dependent therefore Islam motivates believers to help such children by setting high
rewards for this. Islam teaches us to be kind, assisting, and generous towards orphans. Islam
also encourages believers to adopt them and bring them up fairly.
5. Thus, we learn from this hadith that treating orphans kindly and bringing them up fairly would
reward us with paradise along with the blessings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). In this
connection, the Prophet (PBUH) said: "The best Muslim house is that in which an orphan is
well treated, and the worst Muslim house is that in which an orphan is ill-treated."
6. So, we are required of taking care of dependent kids in our society until they grow up and
become independent.

b)
1. We should treat orphans kindly and bring them up fairly.
2. If possible, we should adopt them and take care of them generously by fulfilling their needs.
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) himself took care of Hazrat Zaid bin Haritha (RZ) like his own kid
by setting him free and by fulfilling his needs.
3. We should take care of them like our own children.
4. We should not use them as servants or slaves.
5. We should treat them equally and should not discriminate against them.
6. If needed, we should sacrifice our needs to fulfill theirs like Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (RZ) did.
He was expected to marry a lady younger than him but when his father left orphans, he
instead married an older lady for their well-being.
7. We should not eat up their property left by their parents.
8. We should spend the property left by their parents for their well-being, education, and their
needs.
9. We should give them their due rights and honour their existence.
